Accepted-Now having second thoughts

Nope, you are not the only one. Anxiety hits many of us because of the ammount of work and time that is expected of us. I just keep reminding myself what the goal is and focus on it. I also have religion, so I pray and it helps me A LOT! Good luck and I hope you are granted the calmness and clear mind it takes to make the decision to go through with it or not.

:uhoh21: Right there with ya!!! I go back and forth with emotions. I'm excited but I keep having this feeling of failure. I am scared to DEATH!

It's as if I want to find an excuse NOT to start :trout:

We'll all get through it. I think once I begin clinicals, I will be so caught up with the joy of actually having hands on with a patient, I will get over my doubts.

I hear you! And, I totally second your thoughts.

I start school in June and am about to finish my gig here in corporate america. I had my meltdown this past Sunday night and ended up taking a day off work to compose myself. I took a nice long hike, alone with my dog, just to think things over and it really, really helped. I also had a tearful, two-hour long conversation with my husband, which also helped. I think if you're not feeling some anxiety, then you're being unrealistic about your expectations during and after school. Take some time to yourself. Do something you really enjoy. And if it turns out that you've changed your mind somewhere during this time, you are certainly no less of a person for it.

Don't worry, getting my nursing degree was the best thing I ever did. I did not go back to school until my children were in Jr. high and high school so I was worried at first also, but with a lot of hard work it was all worth it!!! There are so many different areas you can get into after you graduate.

My faculty advisor told me that getting into nursing school is like buying a house. The emotional roller coaster is very similar. Just trust that all your hard work on the prerequisites has led you to this point.

And if you don't like nursing care, you can always go into administration or law or any other field. Nurse lawyers totally rock!

Yes it's fear...and as the old saying goes...there is nothing to fear but fear itself.

You CAN do this!

I'm right there with all of you. I'm absolutely excited about starting school but at the same time absolutely terrified. It's a huge life change for me as I'm changing careers, taking a cut in pay, etc... and I'm a worry wart by nature and these past few weeks before school starts I've been up all night worrying about it. I think it's very normal to have fear before such an undertaking - it means that you are really thinking it through. You need to take a step back, take a deep breath, take some time for yourself and figure out why you are having second thoughts.

I'm not even starting in the fall and I've been having the same worries. Partly because I'm nearly done with the BSN prereqs, and partly because the past 2 years have been really hard and my kids are griping about me being gone for classes. I just don't really feel like doing this for 3 more years. I'm tired! But I know that this is definitely a good career choice for me and I love the classes when I'm not completely exhausted. Plus there's the insane pressure to have perfect grades so I can get in. For that reason, I think nursing school will be less pressured because I can "let myself go" and get some B's. Maybe you can take a long walk and relax some. That always helps me feel better about life.

for sure! anxiety hits all of us who have been accepted and are just waiting to start, because now the ball is on our court to succeed. No one is holding the key to what you we want. It's been handed to us in form of a letter and we have to walk towards the door, unlock it, and jump in head first. Like Rocky once said, "Yo, you ain't scared??, i'm scared! being scared always makes me get more ready..." LOL:lol2: or something like that.

I told my best friend about this website (she's in the nursing program now) and she asked "Why would you care about what a bunch of strangers say." But, it's amazing how you all make me feel better and know just what to say. Just knowing that I'm not alone in the way I feel....makes all the difference in the world. Again...thank you!

I totally agree with you. I was supposed to start in the fall but I recieve a phone call the other day and was told I can start on Monday and of course I said yes. Yesterday for the first time, I began to panic. I'm ready to give it my all but I just keep feeling like I might not do as well as I would like. Anyhow, after reading this thread , I know that I am not alone on this and do feel much better about my decission to start now. Thanks .
