Hey everybody!
I just wanted to start a separate thread regarding our acceptance into the FSCJ (a.k.a. FCCJ) Summer 2010 "RN" program. I know we've all been posting to the "hopefuls" page but now that we aren't "hopefuls" anymore, and we're more like "stressfuls"... I thought I'd start a new page... JOIN ME! :)
I guess it is technically called something else other than "RN program" but... here we go anyway.
I'm still a bit confused as to whether, during orientation, I should be more focused on getting a hospital close to my house or a teacher that will be great during my first term.
Does anyone have any suggestions on this? I've always made the teacher my first priority but I'm curious as to whether or not, those of you who have been there, think that there is a big enough difference in teachers that we would be wise to drive for miles to get to a specific one.
I'm so curious what our schedule is going to be like the first semester. Will we be insanely busy? What time will classes be? What time will clinicals be? Will we be doing homework/studying 24/7?I have a child so I'm especially anxious to see how it will be juggling everything.
Hi Elizabeth,
First Term classes for days are 9-12 and 1-4 except for Techniques
NUR1110 Nursing Concepts - 3 hours, hybrid
NUR1022C Nursing Techniques (Includes Clinicals)8-1:30 for class, 6:45 - 1:30 clinical
NUR1060C Health Assessment across the Lifespan - 3 hours
NUR1140 Pharmacology and Nutrition in Health and Illness. 3 hours, hybrid
The hybrid classes don't meet every week. We have lots of homework, pre-reading before, reading after, homework assignments outside of the normal reading and filling out (answering) objectives. Volunteering (required for some classes, but only 4 hours) group projects, testing and extra lectures on Mondays. Required lab hours...
Oh yes we are going to be busy! Sleep now! :)
Everyone forms teams, we help eachother succeed, after all - we all made it into the program.... there isn't a bad student in the bunch!
That basically sounds like what I was expecting, I see why time management is going to be so important. I have a 3 year old and the schedule seems do- able. I'm so ready! The money I'm spending is crazy though and I haven't even gotten my uniforms yet. Like my hudband says " you have to pay to be a nurse, because it pays to be a nurse!"
Heads up. Make a copy of ALL your immunizations and titers. Later terms have teachers asking for proof of your ppd (which is silly since you gave it to the Nursing Office). You can't get a copy from the office so you have to go back to the provider to get proof if you didn't make a copy.
Dumb, but it is happening.

Your PPD is due every year, so that is why you have to show proof because it is due again. =)
How did the meetup go at Panera? I wish I could have made it.
I think it went really well! ButterflyMom was right, she had ALOT of great info for us. When I looked at the books she brought, I got really nervous. They look like they're written in Latin...I guess some parts are!
Quick question, if my PPD came back positive, and I had to get a chest x-ray to prove I was all clear for TB, will I have to get another PPD every year? Once someone tests positive for the antigen, they will always test positive. I'm not getting a chest x-ray every year! That's not safe!
I can't wait to meet everybody on Monday!
