Accepted FSCJ Summer 2010 Students

U.S.A. Florida

Hey everybody!

I just wanted to start a separate thread regarding our acceptance into the FSCJ (a.k.a. FCCJ) Summer 2010 "RN" program. I know we've all been posting to the "hopefuls" page but now that we aren't "hopefuls" anymore, and we're more like "stressfuls"... I thought I'd start a new page... JOIN ME! :)

I guess it is technically called something else other than "RN program" but... here we go anyway.

I'm still a bit confused as to whether, during orientation, I should be more focused on getting a hospital close to my house or a teacher that will be great during my first term.

Does anyone have any suggestions on this? I've always made the teacher my first priority but I'm curious as to whether or not, those of you who have been there, think that there is a big enough difference in teachers that we would be wise to drive for miles to get to a specific one.

I think it went really well! ButterflyMom was right, she had ALOT of great info for us. When I looked at the books she brought, I got really nervous. They look like they're written in Latin...I guess some parts are!:D

Quick question, if my PPD came back positive, and I had to get a chest x-ray to prove I was all clear for TB, will I have to get another PPD every year? Once someone tests positive for the antigen, they will always test positive. I'm not getting a chest x-ray every year! That's not safe!

I can't wait to meet everybody on Monday!

Email Crystal (name in your packet), she can answer the ppd question.

It's not Latin, just a font of 8:lol2: The new Language is called Pharmac/o/logy:lol2:

I really enjoyed meeting you'll! See ya Monday!

I'm wondering if we really need 2 of everything? I can see staining the uniform top and needing an extra- are they hard to get later? I'm not worried about the pants since we can buy our own, specifically just the top.

Has anyone else placed their Meridy's order? Any advice on the blood pressure cuff? For some reason I'd rather see it in person than order it online.

I used my blood pressure cuff just for the 25 blood pressures you have to get. So just get a cheap one. Some professors require you bring it to clinicals though. You can always get one from FNSA that are donated. The uniforms changed my semester so I still have mine sitting in the closet unfortunately. I think it helps to have two because some semesters you have to go two days in a row.

Can you also buy the white pants on your own ?

We talked a little bit about that when we met up last weekend but then I had a thought... I thought we had to get them from Meridy's because they had the patch already on there. (the fscj patch). I know you can buy extra patches but I really don't want to have to be sewing/ironing on patches. Perhaps I misunderstood the term "patches".

I got my stethoscope and BP cuff in the mail today from allheart.com! I had my name stitched in the BP cuff because I didn't know how else I would mark it... I've taken my BP so many times already that my left hand just recently got back all its color :)

I guess we'll find out the white pants answer for sure on Monday. I can't wait to get started.

Are we supposed to bring anything to orientation?

Im probably just gonna bring a binder with my paper and to put papers in and I guess I'll bring my bookbag just in case they give us a bunch of stuff

I would bring a notebook. There is a lecture where notes may or may not be necessary, depending on your math abilities. Also don't forget any titers or other info still needed to be turned in. There will be a box to put these in.

If you get your books they will not fit in a backpack, there are too many (10 or 12), they come in a box. They will give a copy of the nursing handbook and a list of classes (sections) to choose from.

See you all tomorrow!

10-12 books for one semester?

Thats a lot of books.

Any idea how much all the books cost?

4 are text books for the term. 2 you will use right away to study for the first day exams and the rest I believe are reference books. There is a list of must haves and a list of helpfuls. I bought them all for aroung $880.:uhoh3:

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Anyone else nervous for tomorrow!?!?!?!

We can wear whatever we want, right?

Ready...Set....GO!!!!! :D

Other than the two books we need right away for the first exam, can we buy any of the books onlined used?

Also, has anyone ever tried to buy uniforms from any of the graduating nursing students? They won't need them anymore and I would love to try and save as much $$$ as I can.
