This thread is here for those recently accepted into the Army Nurse Corp to discuss questions, concerns, cross-talk, give advice, to have mentors from those who are 'in the know', discuss PT, job expectations, questions on uniforms / duty stations / contract / bonuses and in general to begin your journey together.

And to make sure we know what we're signing in our contract

Yep, I gotta sign papers on Monday ... wow, this is kind of surreal -- all that effort, the waiting, and suddenly -- BAM! -- "you've been selected." I love it. :) I know to make sure that my M5 identifier is included in my contract! A friend of my went into the reserves as an 8A, but her contract was missing the identifier; apparently it was a huge pain to fix that.
just_cause, thanks for starting this thread. I can see I'll be spending a lot of time here, between doing push-ups, sit-ups, and running. Thank goodness I started running this past December! Time to kick it up a notch.
You should the contract pretty straight forward and easy to read :) just retain a copy for yourself and contrats.

I'm with you guys...I am so excited to re-start this journey in uniform, but this time as a nurse!!! Congrats to you guys!!! If you need any help getting ready for BOLC just let me know. You guys will be there a month longer than what I was, but the FTX was integrated with the AC and I got a lot of info from them. I wasn't new to the military, but the officer side of the house took a little to get use to. I hope you guys don't have to go through when it's wicked hot! The weather was pretty mellow/cold, but on the days it was warm in the field all I could thing about was how in the world people did it in the middle of summer!!! I'm so excited!!!! Can't wait to hear from everyone during their process. I too sign papers on Monday. I have to wait for the CDR of USARC to officially sign my Conditional Release now that I've been selected. Once he does that then I will here from my career counselor. I'm pretty sure I met the MAJ down here, but I met so many people that I need to go back through all my contacts to make sure. I don't have to wait for BOLC, so I should have orders to my first duty station within 90 days. It will take another month probably to set up household goods, but just getting my orders will bring this LONG journey full circle!!! Again, congrats to all of you and I can't wait to meet you in uniform!!!
(I feel like a little kid inside - it's crazy!!!!!)

Are you in the reserves now or are you PS? I was wondering if your recruiter told you when they were going to sign your documents, if you had to wait to wear the rank etc. I am just a little confused about how this process is going to work for those of us on an enlistment.
I signed my papers a few days ago.
You can swear in but this depends on when your orders are posted.. i believe they are looking at swearing you in and doing the da71 (oath of office) 3 days prior to your orders have you leaving...
So when do we think we'll be heading to BOLC? Any guesses? My recruiter (who is awesome and has been very spot-on with all the info, I have to say) said that some of her people waited at least 6 months between being boarded and going to BOLC. Are we thinking March, or July? I wouldn't mind July, to be honest -- despite it being July in Texas! -- because I'd like to get a bit more time at my PRN job at the Level 2, where I was just hired. Goofy, I know, but there it is.
So funny ... all my coworkers are like, "Now what? When? Where will you be stationed? Etc.?" and I have no idea! LOL. My favorite medics are already hugging me every time they see me in preparation for me leaving. :)

I was thinking I'd like the March one....not winter & not hot, humid SUMMER in TX! ha. Also, it would be soon enough to feel I'm finally getting there, but far enough away to help me to arrange what I need to do to get ready (as January is only 26 days away & there's sooooo much to do!!!). Not to mention it would be nice to give my current boss enough notice about when she needs more staff. As for coworkers, hardly any of my current ones know my plans until I know for sure myself what I'm doing/where I'm going, because it makes it easier w/out explaining things all the time, ha.
It would be great training w/ some of us from on this forum!

I am on the fence about that one. I was in San Antonio last year in June, and it was nasty hot, but I have always been of the opinion that when it concerns the Army I would rather sweat:flamesonb than freeze. Yes July will be nasty hot, but you don't have to worry about it being 2 degrees at night or first thing in the morning when you are up trying to do PT, or set up training etc. I guess it depends on what you like, or the mercy of the Branch/Assignment Manager.
I am more anxious about the assignments. I was hoping for a MEDCEN to start out, but that list only had Hawaii and El Paso. I can only hope for the best.
Just a note here, I would start putting $ away so that you can buy uniforms, gear etc. That stuff adds up fast. Additionally, if anyone has looked at the packing list, it says 3 sets of ACU's, the absolute minimum I would bring is 4. Also invest in some boots early so that you can wear them around and break them in. Just be sure to get boots that are in regulation. You can check AR 670-1 for details
Here are the updates from the Human Resources website. For those of us with M5, the lowest rank listed on the slots was CPT. The reason for this may be that by the time typical new accessions complete NTP, and attend the courses that they were guaranteed, they are CPT's or 1LT(P)'s. I do not know how we will be assigned, or if we can be placed in a slot more than 1 rank below the grade that is posted even if we have the credentials for the spot. We may be treated as new accessions and placed in general 66H slots for the first year, and we may also have to complete the NTP along with all of the other New Grads. I am just not sure. If any one finds out any info on this can you keep us posted.
Here is the list:
