Hi- This is my first post here, I found you guys on google and you all seemed really nice and informative.
I am in a bit of a predicament, this is a long post I'm sorry but I need some expertise advice.
I applied to Stony Brook for the Accelerated Program Starting in 2008, here were my pre-reqs:
Microbio: B-
A&P1: B
A&P2: In progress
Chem 1: C
Other Science: C+
Overall Gpa 2.76 ( I have a 3.6 from another school but they dont add them both together unfortunately )
I had my application in on time, printed out the date sheet, but there was a snafu with the wrong dates on the website, and I didnt get my references in on time, I ultimately got denied.
I want to make sure I get accepted this time around. I just graduated from Stony Brook and here are my current stats:
Microbio: B-
A&P1- B
A&P2 B+
Chem1: C
Other Science: A
(this gives a 3.0 average on the sciences)
I have also raised my GPA to 3.4, not including my 3.6 gpa from my transfer school
So my question is: I know that Stony Brook's program is extremely competitive, what do I need to do to get accepted?! I know that my Chem grade isn't the greatest, but I really do not want to take it again as I really struggled through it the first time at Stony Brook. Do you think that the C will really make or break me and I should retake it? I have to work full time all summer, so I would have to retake it online through a community college - do you think that if I simply had excellent references and personal statements my chem grade would be overlooked? I don't want to put myself into jeopardy because of one grade.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated, I am having an internal struggle, because my heart really isn't in retaking chemistry
Sandy, was it the accelerated at bing you were accepted into? If so then atleast your in an accelerated program no matter what.
Madison, I did the same thing, and isn't the wait killing you? When I spoke to someone yesterday they said that my file as well as a few others had not had decisions made on them as yet, and that it will take a while...this is good news right. I submitted everything by October 17, how about you?

yea the program in bing is also Accelerated BSN, did you apply to any other programs??
i just received the letter on monday, they put me in the waiting list T_T It is kind of ******* me off because I thought my GPA (3.9 for prereq from binghamton University) would be high enough. I think they also consider volunteer experience and other stuffs. guess i will stay in bing for one more year
I am surprised you are on the waiting list for Stony. Your GPA seems high enough and you have volunteer experience. It is good that you got into Bing. I heard dorm life is better in Bing than in Stony since Stony is more of a commuter school.
I wish you the best!
Sandy,
I just graduated from Binghamton in December...ironically enough I was also accepted to the accelerated program at Decker but placed on the waiting list at Stony Brook. It's so surreal that we were both placed on the waiting list...after all Decker is ranked higher than Stony Brook.
Either way...Good Luck to you!

this is cool, we could be friends if we are both staying in bing :nuke:
