  1. Hi all, I am currently working per diem in a clinic and full time RN in a hospital in a new york city area, now my boss is offering me 100000k base salary, 3 years contract, after two years, will have incentive bonuses based on productivity. He also offers 2 weeks of vacation, 1 week CME, 2 sick days, 8 holidays, dental, medical, malpractice insurance and 401k. we see almost 80- 90 patients every day. I am currently working as an RN, with 6 years of acute experience, making $50 an hour. I can easily make it if I pick up OT. But after a while just feel sick of on my feet all day. Initially I thought it was a good offer, I verbally accepted it, but haven't signed contract yet. I never learned how to negotiate because my job has always been a unionized job. I am thinking to quit my current RN job and start my new NP career, Just wanted to see what you guys think. Would you still negotiate and ask for a higher base salary? 3 years contract is a long commitment ... he said the physicians contract there is 5 year. The doctor is very passionate to train new staffs and the physicians and staffs do stay and work for him for over 10 years.
  2. Hi, I am currently doing an one year accelerated nursing program for a BSN degree. I was wondering if anyone knows any hospitals that have nursing externships in the winter???
  3. I am thinking it may be due to the fact that I haven't finished most of their required prereq (I have only bio and chem done when I applied) since they only have a few prereq. thanks for letting me know this, but I think by that time (June), I would already found an apartment in binghamton and pay the deposit to them already lol I just hope they will give me a spot earlier than May
  4. this is cool, we could be friends if we are both staying in bing :nuke:
  5. yea the program in bing is also accelerated bsn, did you apply to any other programs??
  6. yes I also applied to binghamton and I got accepted on November. I think I will start looking for housing when I go back to bing on Jan, but I still hope I will hear good news from stony
  7. i just received the letter on monday, they put me in the waiting list T_T It is kind of ******* me off because I thought my GPA (3.9 for prereq from binghamton University) would be high enough. I think they also consider volunteer experience and other stuffs. guess i will stay in bing for one more year
  8. can you guys tell me your GPA? I am waiting for mine but I just left my place to home for the vacation, and didnt check my mail... I have a 3.7 biochem, BS degree, and 3.9 nursing prereq, any chance??
  9. I have a 3.7 overall GPA in Biochemistry, BS and 3.9 nursing prereq GPA but I am also an undergrad in Bing, so I am not sure if they are giving me preference or not. Also they accept people in a rolling basis, so if I were you I would have applied much earlier. When I spoke w/ the advisor there, she told me to apply by thanksgiving. so which schools did/will you apply?
  10. cool, my boyfriend actually is doing the traditional 4 years bsn program too, that's why I am also convinced to changing to nursing field lol I don't think you need to worry about not having experience, cuz most of the people who are in the BAT program do not have medical experience either, and I know some people are actually from a very different field such as Art major. As long as you can keep up your work in school, i don't think medical experience matters that much cuz we will have a lot of time spending in the hospital to learn those real experience anyway.
  11. I would also like to know about the clinical, where do you go for clinicals? Do you go to Stony Brook hospital mainly or you have to travel around the hospitals in Stony Brook? If so, how far are the hospitals are from campus?
  12. I just found out that I got accepted this week, Now I am just waiting for Stony Brook's reply! is anyone here also got accepted to Bing?
  13. Hello, this is my first post here. I applied to Stony Brook and Binghamton University. Can anyone who are in the accelerated program give me some idea on how competitive their programs are? What was your GPA when you get in? any previous hospital experience? I have a 3.7 GPA in biochemistry and my prerequisite is 3.9. But I don't have any hospital experience. I know that in Binghamton nursing program, students always need to travel far way to other hospitals (even to syracuse in some cases) for clilnicals. I know Stony Brook has its own hospital, do the nursing students still need to travel to other sites (by car) for clinicals? also, when did you guys know whether you get accepted?
