Accelerated Nursing Program @ Stony Brook Question :)

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi- This is my first post here, I found you guys on google and you all seemed really nice and informative.

I am in a bit of a predicament, this is a long post I'm sorry but I need some expertise advice.

I applied to Stony Brook for the Accelerated Program Starting in 2008, here were my pre-reqs:

Microbio: B-

A&P1: B

A&P2: In progress

Chem 1: C

Other Science: C+

Overall Gpa 2.76 ( I have a 3.6 from another school but they dont add them both together unfortunately :( )

I had my application in on time, printed out the date sheet, but there was a snafu with the wrong dates on the website, and I didnt get my references in on time, I ultimately got denied.

I want to make sure I get accepted this time around. I just graduated from Stony Brook and here are my current stats:

Microbio: B-

A&P1- B

A&P2 B+

Chem1: C

Other Science: A

(this gives a 3.0 average on the sciences)

I have also raised my GPA to 3.4, not including my 3.6 gpa from my transfer school

So my question is: I know that Stony Brook's program is extremely competitive, what do I need to do to get accepted?! I know that my Chem grade isn't the greatest, but I really do not want to take it again as I really struggled through it the first time at Stony Brook. Do you think that the C will really make or break me and I should retake it? I have to work full time all summer, so I would have to retake it online through a community college - do you think that if I simply had excellent references and personal statements my chem grade would be overlooked? I don't want to put myself into jeopardy because of one grade.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated, I am having an internal struggle, because my heart really isn't in retaking chemistry :(

I havent heard anything either from stony brook. I called today and they said they were still sending out decisions. So I am not sure what to think. I just want to know!!!

I found out today. I didn't get into the accelerated program:( But I still have a chance at the 2 year:) So we will see. So I just have to wait a little bit longer!!

Hey Madison, don't feel eh' Im wait listed and preety sure that this is just a high-class rejection letter. Have you applied elsewhere but here and the 2 year track?

hey everyone... just found out about this site... i also got into the program and just wondering what has everyone been doing since receiving the admissions packet? of course i mailed in my response letter... but now what? did anyone get any responses back from stony brook? ..... did anyone finish completing the "admission check list" ? ... o btw.. congrats to EVERYONE who made the class =D... it was definitely a challenge for me to make it =)

anyone planning to live on-campus? .... i heard most nursing students live in West Apartments "H"... i hope i get in there. i paid that 200 dollar deposit fee... is there anything else i can do to guarantee a room there?

Hi all,

Congrats to all who got into the accelerated program - that is so awesome. I am still biting my nails for the 2 year program. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I wanted to know if anyone knew of any other programs like stony brook on li or in the city. They can be 2 year programs - I am getting nervous and thought i should try to apply to other programs - so i dont have all my eggs in one basket. Let me know.

Thanks:wink2:

I am pretty sure you missed the deadline for a lot of programs but

there is Molloy and Adelphi who are on rolling admission

NYU, Columbia and Suny downstate in brooklyn ( Suny downstate may still be open for admission but hurry!)

hey =).... i'm pretty much almost done with the admission check list.. i got my CPR and my TITHERS from my job not too long ago.... so i pretty much just have to see my doctor for my physical, sign up for that insurance, and take a pocket sized photo of myself... i can't wait to start!!

here's the website for the accelerated program at adelphi university located in manhattan... http://www.adelphi.edu/manhattan/nursing.php hope this helps =) .... u should also look into SUNY DOWNSTATE in Brooklyn... they have an accelerated program as welll.... and try dominican college 12 month program... i believe their program starts in may 1 tho... so hurry up =D

blah, Chemistry sucks, Organic chemistry rocks on for life!

Actually, why not take chem 2? its all math.Just read the whole book and do the problem. Most nursing schools arent big on the chem =/. Anyways, good luck.

Just for the note. I got a C in chem and got a A in organic chem. Im actually planning to take more chemistry courses in the future because Im in love with Organic.
