  1. I started my pre-reqs when i was 24 and started nursing school when i was 25.
  2. All supporting documents are used for both applications - so you only need to do one set of references, essay and transcripts. All you have to do is submit the two applications - I believe the appln deadline for the 2 year is Jan 10. Good Luck applying.
  3. I absolutely love this thread:) Never have your pacemaker recharged under consious sedation and go home the same day and then drink heavily for the next three days and wonder why you end up back at the ER due to severe dehydration.
  4. I did not take intro to nursing - I took statistics and the group theory course. You really should try to apply to both programs - I really wanted the one year when I applied and I am so happy that I am now in the two year - the way in which they run the program is awesome and works for me. When I applied last year I did both application around the same time - you can use the same supporting documents - so you really dont have to do that much more to submit the 2nd application. Good Luck with everything.
  5. It is a long waiting game - I didnt get my acceptance letter until mid-march:) But it was worth the wait.
  6. I applied to both programs last year. I am currently in the 2 year program which I absolutely love. But from what I hear both programs are awesome. Last year when I applied to both I heard from the 1 year around mid january and then the 2 year in mid march. It is a long and stressful waiting game. Good LUCK!
  7. Hi I am currently in the two year program nursing at stony brook. I applied to both the one year and the two year program and I know what you guys are going through it is a nail biting experience - but it is so worth it - when you get in. I am having such a great experience. I know that they look at each person overall - they take everything into consideration. I would apply to both programs if you still can. Good luck!!!!
  8. I have heard that both programs are very tough. I feel ready for it. My job is very understanding of me being in school. It is a give and take relationship - so we will see. I am so ready to start!!!!! Tomorrow is the day!
  9. Kamyrn2007 - thanks so much for the times - very helpful - I am hoping I get clinicals on thursday - I work on the weekends - and I dont want to give it up. So we will see - Orientation is only one day away!!!! I want to know what books we need. I dont want to go through the book store. Hopefully for you, you wont need to buy that many. Ahhh. I am so excited to start. Sera1987 - I applied to both and I am so glad that I did. I wouldnt of had all my pre reqs done for the accelerated program which is why I didnt get accepted. I am very excited about the 2 yr program - I feel like it is better for me. The acclerated program is intense. I would apply to both and it is 2 applications, but they use your supporting documents for both applications. So you only need 3 letter of recommendations and you can do the same essay for both as well. Keep an eye on deadlines. I would also go to an info session. They dont give you much info by phone. So the info session was very helpful. I took statistics through stony brook - through the school of nursing and i def recommend it. It is a awesome class. The professor is awesome. Both programs are very competitive so good luck!!!!!!!
  10. You are lucky, because when I called they would never tell me. Did they tell you times for classes Did they say when clinicals would be? I am very excited to start as well.
  11. Congrats on your acceptance. There hasnt been any prior orientation, everyone goes on thursday. I am excited to start. Stony brook has not really given much information. I want to know the schedule and what books we need. Only 2 more days!!!!
  12. I think it depends on the school you want to go to. Some look at the overall person and other schools just look at the grades. But either way you should go for it.
  13. I start in the fall and I am not sure what my overall expenses are going to be. I am going to try to work part-time during school. The 2 year program is a BSN. I am going for my BSN because I would like to go back to school in the future for my masters. Stony Brook is a good school with a good reputation which is why I have decided to go there, plus it is local for me and has the program I am looking to do.
  14. International editions I have found are harder to sell. You are better off going with a US edition.
  15. I buy textbooks online and I have had no issues with it. I usually buy them on amazon or textbooks.com. It is definately cheaper than the bookstores at the schools which charge way too much. When buying books on amazon, if they are used I look to make sure the person had good reviews before purchasing. I would def. buy your books online it is a lot cheaper.
