Accelerated Nursing Program @ Stony Brook Question :)

Published

Hi- This is my first post here, I found you guys on google and you all seemed really nice and informative.

I am in a bit of a predicament, this is a long post I'm sorry but I need some expertise advice.

I applied to Stony Brook for the Accelerated Program Starting in 2008, here were my pre-reqs:

Microbio: B-

A&P1: B

A&P2: In progress

Chem 1: C

Other Science: C+

Overall Gpa 2.76 ( I have a 3.6 from another school but they dont add them both together unfortunately :( )

I had my application in on time, printed out the date sheet, but there was a snafu with the wrong dates on the website, and I didnt get my references in on time, I ultimately got denied.

I want to make sure I get accepted this time around. I just graduated from Stony Brook and here are my current stats:

Microbio: B-

A&P1- B

A&P2 B+

Chem1: C

Other Science: A

(this gives a 3.0 average on the sciences)

I have also raised my GPA to 3.4, not including my 3.6 gpa from my transfer school

So my question is: I know that Stony Brook's program is extremely competitive, what do I need to do to get accepted?! I know that my Chem grade isn't the greatest, but I really do not want to take it again as I really struggled through it the first time at Stony Brook. Do you think that the C will really make or break me and I should retake it? I have to work full time all summer, so I would have to retake it online through a community college - do you think that if I simply had excellent references and personal statements my chem grade would be overlooked? I don't want to put myself into jeopardy because of one grade.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated, I am having an internal struggle, because my heart really isn't in retaking chemistry :(

I just heard! I WAS ACCEPTED :) I still have my fingers crossed for you!!!! We can be best friends ;) hahaha

Congrats on your acceptance.

Was it a large envelope that they sent you or a small one?

What is in the letter.

Thanks

Last year my denial came in a letter envelope, my acceptance came in an admissions packet.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! :yeah:

Still no letter for me either way, keeping my fingers crossed!

I do! This was my second time applying so I am MORE than relieved!!! GOOD LUCK! Let me know if you hear anything :)

I got accepted into the program. Good luck to everyone! :yeah:

Congats NYC!!!

im still waiting....I wonder if its just the acceptance letters that are going out now, and not the rejections....have the rejections gone out??...mmmm...soo nervous.

Quick question, for those accepted, did your Solar page change? Any new tabs? Are you able

to pay a deposit? The reason Im asking is because since some of us are still waiting for letters

some of us (ok..me) are trying to get little hints so that we can stop stressing....and stressing...

so yeah, did anything change on your Solar login? Any confirmational emails as yet? Anything?

Don't make yourself crazy with that!

I can pay my deposit on Solar, but it says I can't yet because I am "not a matriculated student"

my solar is different than yours though, my application portion disappeared, however I have a lot more stuff than new applicants already on there because I am an alumnus so I'm not sure how yours would look! There were no confirmation e-mails, just the packet!

I made myself crazy with this stuff last year and this year, I wasn't accepted last year and almost had an aneurysm, because quite honestly my life was over but I decided that I would just apply again, and I really think that showed a lot of determination because I do not have the typical "4.0" or close to it GPA , this year really made me realize that they definitely do take every factor into determination not just your grades!! Your packet should be here this week, don't think that just because you didn't get it yet you're denied- think of how many applicants they get, that's a lot of mailing!!!!! :)

Is this your first time applying?? If you have any other questions ask me, I'm a plethora of information because I have engulfed myself in this unfortunately for 3 years!

If I didnt worry what would I do....lol. Thanks ifoundnemo....This is my first, and hopefully last year of applying for the BSN, Stony and CNR are the two schools Im waiting on, and I definately do not want to do this again...My tabs in solar still look the same so I'm not sure. At this point I just want to know so that I can make a plan B or atleast know what to do with myself for another year, you know. Im just nervous because I still had Dev. Psych, Micro and Anatomy 2, to take (Got A's this fall in the science). The other prereqs I have A's in, but thats not too many. I completely understand that your not the 4.0, and neither am I, thats why Im nervous. I guess I will see...I just want to see now...lol. Thanks for the quick reply! Any of you who recieved letters are you close to stony? Im in Nassau county and waiting-I've convinced myself that you are all far east peolpe....please tell me none of you live in malverne....

I'm on the wayyy east end of the island!! Don't panic, by this time next week you should know! You don't need Developmental Psych as a pre-req for entrance into the accelerated program, just fyi! It's only for the 2 year program :) Did you apply to the 2 year program as well?? The counselor I spoke to recommended that I apply to both, a lot of students don't know you can do that and they said that sometimes people will not be accepted into the 1 year program but get into the 2 year program with no problem.

Do you have volunteer experience?

I dont need the Dev. Psyh...ahhh...I was going to apply to the 2 yr program, and i still need to just in case, but I dont know...I hopeing that I wont have to, I mean the deadline is dec 31. right? and I will procrastinate until the end just to save the 40 bucks lol. its good to know your far out there instead of right next door or something lol. I herd that alot of denial letters came out at the beginning of Dec. though, so Im hopeing this is a good sign. FYI- I think we just hijacked the threat ifoundnemo lol. Thanks again lol...
