Absolutely FURIOUS!!!!

Hey, guys, I need some serious calming down.

A lot of y'all remember the thread "All is not well in the kingdom", where I talked about the horrible job and subsequent termination I had had.

I had a very promising interview Tuesday, and gave the name and home phone number of an NP that I had worked with at that clinic as a reference. The reference called me last night.

Apparently, when my potential new boss called, NP was in a room. A med tech intercepted the call, told the lady that all I did was get on people's nerves. She then told her that she did not need to speak to NP, to call the OM at the oher clinic, and hung up on her.

Well, NP DID speak to my potential new boss, and said that she was asking about me getting on people's nerves! She said that she told my PNB (potential new boss) that I did NOT, and gave me a good reference.

I am so steamed about this, I mean, this could cost me the job! I called OM and demanded that I get both an apology and a recantation, either by phone or by mail. I told her I was considering a lawsuit for slander, and should this impede my new job, I WOULD be seeing my lawyer. She agreed that the tech had no business doing what she did. She said she would handle it, and get back with me.

What do y'all think? Was I overreacting? What would you do? Thanks.

Hi Angel:heartbeat I was wondering if you got the job or not, but did not want to ask. So you have not found out yet. That probably okay. I, like the above poster said, cannot imagine that a professional who interviews, could hold one bad reference up above the three good ones I believe you said you had gotten. Hopefully, she will use her own discernment of the interaction between the two of you to make a wise choice. I truly wish you the best of luck.

Well, I got the job, but now I am having MAJOR misgivings about it. The PNB said that ALL my references said that I got on people's nerves, and that the termination from the clinic was not my first dismissal, neither of which are true. I also know that MY references did not say that. I know, because I called them and asked. I told her as much, and also asked about the tech, and was met with,

"Well, see, now you've given me even more reason to be concerned, you're getting all defensive and making a mountain out of a molehill. What I want to know is, are you willing to change?"

Well, devil YEAH! I am going to defend myself if there are rumors being bandied about that I have a propensity for being fired. That's human nature. I swear, if I was no desperate for a job, I'd have told her where to stick it. I hate liars. So, as soon as I get my licensure (job is in a neighboring state), I start, only PRN, which is great for me. I am also going to continue to look, because this is sounding like it may be as much of a rat's nest as what I just left. Thanks again, all, I appreciate the support.

You got the job and now it looks like you are looking for melodrama with that last post.

You need to do some introspection here :twocents:

I don't know about melodrama, I just hate going into a new job with a perception like that. Feels like I'm starting off in the hole.

I don't think you are being melodramatic at all. You are 100% right to have reservations here. Take the job so you have income and keep looking. Your new employer doesn't sound very bright and I wonder if they are desperate because for her to tell you that all your references were negative and then hire you anyway looks very bad on their part. Add in that you know for a fact she's lying and that's Strike 2. Furthermore if she was going to give you a shot she should have shut her yap and let you start with a clean slate and not get things off on a negative foot. She has already deemed you a problem without you even working one shift. You will be under the microscope and the good thing is you are smart enough to know it.

I was just thinking that I would run this conversation by your lawyer before accepting. See what they have to say. Can't hurt any and I'm not sold on the fact that in essence that didn't cost you a job because I just don't see this going well and that's through no fault of your own. I would also see if they will follow up to your former employer with a letter even if they advise you to take the job.

Contact the powers that be and have that tech dealt with.

If they hired you, it seems that they are mature enough to know that the tech is an idiot, and it should also represent why you left the place to begin with. You can't change what happened, you can only prove them wrong. Your new employer must have been able to tell that the tech was inappropriate because they took it to a higher level and looked past it to hire you, anyhow.

Huge red flag there. She's saying that she doesn't believe you and hasn't taken you at your word. What's going to happen on the job in a critical situation? You're coming into this job crippled by a misperception.

Having a job -- any job -- is not worth your license. Find something where you will at least have the chance to be liked, respected, and above all, trusted.

Lots if posts so I don't know if you will ever read this one but: JACKPOT!!!! You at least have the potential for a nice earily retirement by way of a generous settelment from your former employer. NO LEGAL ADVISE- I don't know your chances, but if you can sue McDonalds for serving hot coffee I'm betting you have better odds than the lottery! I'd at least look into it. This is along the same lines of hoping my favorite screaming surgeon will get worked up enough to take a swing at me some day- I can only hope to be so lucky.

You can't successfully sue someone unless you have been actually damaged. In this case, the OP did get a job offer. It'll be hard to prove that it got the OP off on the wrong foot in her new job because of what this tech said, especially when the OP did get fired from the job.

I'm just so glad to see that the rule against giving legal advice has apparently been removed.

Yes, LOL!

To all who read my posts here on Allnurses:

I am not an RN (yet), a lawyer, or kitty OB/GYN... although in times of emergency, I will step up to the plate! :D

Sorry to be blunt but this ***** wants your job! She seems like one of these LPNs who has this " I can do the nursing job better than you" type of BS - dont let her jealousy destory your career - you;ve worked to hard to get where you are. If it was me I would say " you want to be an RN, I suggest you go back to nursing school get your BSN/MSN get clinical experience and then come back in 4 years time then come and challenge me, until then watch your mouth, calm down, fix your attitude and go do your job" . I am not trying to suggest that all nursing assistants have this attitude, but sometimes people like this need a "harsh" reminder of their duties and position.

It was a med tech, not an LPN.
