Absolutely FURIOUS!!!!

Hey, guys, I need some serious calming down.

A lot of y'all remember the thread "All is not well in the kingdom", where I talked about the horrible job and subsequent termination I had had.

I had a very promising interview Tuesday, and gave the name and home phone number of an NP that I had worked with at that clinic as a reference. The reference called me last night.

Apparently, when my potential new boss called, NP was in a room. A med tech intercepted the call, told the lady that all I did was get on people's nerves. She then told her that she did not need to speak to NP, to call the OM at the oher clinic, and hung up on her.

Well, NP DID speak to my potential new boss, and said that she was asking about me getting on people's nerves! She said that she told my PNB (potential new boss) that I did NOT, and gave me a good reference.

I am so steamed about this, I mean, this could cost me the job! I called OM and demanded that I get both an apology and a recantation, either by phone or by mail. I told her I was considering a lawsuit for slander, and should this impede my new job, I WOULD be seeing my lawyer. She agreed that the tech had no business doing what she did. She said she would handle it, and get back with me.

What do y'all think? Was I overreacting? What would you do? Thanks.

I'd think that the tech's behavior just gave the new employer about 40 reasons why you quit. Hint: it wasn't your behavior that was illegal and unprofessional.

Still, you do have to do something legally. That tech is not the kind of person who takes hints well. ;)

The doctor was passive aggressive and somewhat screwy in her behavior toward you. She will have no incentive to correct her employee until you bring legal action.

I agree Leslie, who needs an apology? What she needs to do is threaten legal action to the clinic, and follow through if she doesn't get the job. Remember, you can only sue if you have actual damages done to you.

I agree with Angie, what this tech did speaks volumes as to the dysfunctional work environment the OP was in.

Well then you would really be amazed at how many times that does happen and the person it happens to never know why, who, or what really happened. This person got lucky and found out about it, However, most do not.

Sad but probably true. :o

I didn't find out I was being blacklisted until I was told by prospective employers who must have felt pretty safe about their position. Most of the time no one will give you a clue as to why you were not favorably considered.

I'm FURIOUS for you. Dear Lord. I think I would speak to a lawyer and get some advice here. And a lawyer sending a letter sure wouldn't hurt any either. While this tech should be fired I don't think they will under the current circumstances. A letter from a lawyer may might them re-think that decision and call a meeting on what can and can't be said and by who in regards to references in the future. Keep us posted. Hugs.

I would be threatening legal action. The tech violated the law. A threat of legal action on your part will be what motivates the administration at your previous job to come down hard on that out of control tech.

Firestarter - I agree! Something should be done, whether she is fired, whatever, to ensure that doesn't happen again. I'd be freaking livid. JIMO, she had no right to say anything like that, she needs to get a grip and know her role.

dont threaten legal action...TAKE IT!!!! good grief......what next...

Get a lawyer now. They will usually require a fee, but some will not if you do not win. You definately have a case against slander. You can suppoena your past-potential employer against his/her will. Consult your lawyer before doing so. You may be entitled to a full years of wages depending on circumstances....not to mention the word-of-mouth destruction this type of thing causes....indeed it can be the ruin of a career.

I just had the same thing happen to me! (somewhat). Absolutely ridiculous. This tech had no right. If you do not get the job, I would seek legal action. Get in touch with HR from your previous employer and check if there are any formal complaints written about you. If not, then let your lawyer do the rest. Good luck. I am sorry this happened to you.

Ditto to everything every other poster has said! Not only would I get a lawyer (they may only charge you a nominal fee for writing a letter to that facility), but I would get in touch with the state workforce commission for that state. I'm not sure exactly what the right name for this office is, but it is probably the same folks who you would report to if an employer wasn't playing by the rules, such as paying employee withholding taxes, paying overtime, etc. I think they can investigate this for you also. So sorry you had to be around such horrid co-workers.:angryfire Good Luck
