  1. Hi all, Super confused here. I am a NP in MA, but working remotely doing telehealth from NJ. I am a contractor not prescribing controlled substances. Do I need a MCSR? Thank you for the guidance.
  2. Go to the actual BON offices in Newark. I remember that they were helpful in person and also really nice, but that was in 2017.
  3. Hi all - I understand in CA APN's will be able to practice independently starting in 2023 given that they have met certain practicing guidelines. Currently - do APN's need a collaborator or supervising physician given the emergency covid policies? I am getting licensed in CA for a telemed job, but need to figure out if I need a supervising physician or not for the next few months. Thanks!
  4. I feel your pain! I searched for an entire year and some 300 applications and moved 500 miles before I got my first RN job. You will find one. The trick is to not give up hope and no marriage is worth losing over a job. At this point, get any job to keep you sane! I worked in a restaurant for a year after school before getting my current job. Another thought--- it's not you. It's the economy. There are tons of other new grads who are not finding jobs. Just don't give up hope and work on your marriage. Good luck to you.
  5. RELOCATE! I am a May 08 grad from Boston. There are about a bagillion Boston hospitals here and no one is hiring unless your mom is the nurse manager. I finally caved in January and started applying out of state and finally got offered a job in DC that starts Monday. Best thing I ever did. If you were to join the military it takes about a year for the process to be completed and then start boot camp. Bottom line is you need a job and you need one soon. If Philadelphia isn't proving to be a good market for jobs then go somewhere for a year and come back.
  6. I'll be starting on Monday with ya! I'm working on a surgical transplant floor. I am basically just prepping for the math test and other than that getting ready to move! What are you doing to get ready?
  7. I graduated in May 2008 and finally landed a job starting in about a week. During this past year I worked per diem for a corporate wellness company. All I did was travel to a corporate work site and perform the clinic that they needed that day. In the fall it was flu shot clinics. Other times of year I did BP clinics, body fat analysis, cholesterol checks, and more recently sun screens testing people for skim damage. It's very easy work, fun and pays well. I would have never known about this area of nursing if a nurse I knew didn't mention it to me. I would look into companies in your area that do these things. Some insurance companies also hire nurses per diem to perform these clinics.
  8. Try corporate wellness. I work for a 3rd party who is hired to staff RN's at health events. I get paid mileage and by the hour. It is not stressful and low key. I usually do things like BP clinics, sun damage screenings etc and they are fun!
  9. Rotating shifts means you work 1/2 of your shifts on days and the other half on nights. Nurses can sign up for the days/nights they want to work and typically are granted those requests.
  10. I applied for Dream Day as well as their new grad program in early February and got into the April 23rd Dream Day.
  11. I live in MA and finally just got a job offer in DC that starts in July. So thankful to finally be offered a job and so excited to start!!!
  12. When I was in nursing school, the school told us "all white nursing shoes or sneakers"---very similiar to what your school is requiring. I bought these cheap 30$ shoes and wore them once. They killed my feet. After that I went back to my Crocs. All my clinical instructors told us to wear what was comfortable for us. My advice---see if you can stick to what you know is comfortable for your feet. If you cannot, Dansko's are super comfy and are well worth it.
  13. I know exactly how you feel. I graduated in May 2008 from a great school and just recently was offered a position in DC. I am relocating from Boston. If possible, relocate. I wish I had known that prior to graduation. I would have applied out of state, but did not do so until this past winter. Finally, it has paid off and I will be starting a year later than my friends who graduated with me, but at least I have something. Prior to this, I had focused my attention on hospitals that were not hiring and are still not hiring. What a waste of time! I did find work at a per diem corporate wellness company so I was at least doing something with my degree. My advice--- take whatever you can get. Search out LTC, assisted living, group homes, corporate wellness, outpatient clinics, doctors offices, even some insurance agencies need nurses to carry out wellness fairs. I think the reason I was offered my position is because I was doing something with my degree all the while looking for a full time position. It will happen to you. Be patient and don't be picky. Everyone needs to start somewhere. This is the advice I should have taken a year ago. I wish you the best of luck!
  14. I think I may want to look closer into the city. I am not down for a 40 minute commute! Thanks for all the info though!!
  15. What type of floor is 4NW? I was thinking of looking for a shared apartment in Capitol Hill/Eastern Market area. Someone told me it's a fun place to live. I was also told that taxes in northern VA are much cheaper, but what about the commute?
