Tips with NJ BON?
Go to the actual BON offices in Newark. I remember that they were helpful in person and also really nice, but that was in 2017.

CA APN's and collaborating/supervising physician
Hi all - I understand in CA APN's will be able to practice independently starting in 2023 given that they have met certain practicing guidelines. Currently - do APN's need a collaborator or supervising physician given the emergency covid policies? I am getting licensed in CA for a telemed job, but need to figure out if I need a supervising physician or not for the next few months. Thanks!

Life right now as a new grad has become my worst nightmare
I feel your pain! I searched for an entire year and some 300 applications and moved 500 miles before I got my first RN job. You will find one. The trick is to not give up hope and no marriage is worth losing over a job. At this point, get any job to keep you sane! I worked in a restaurant for a year after school before getting my current job. Another thought--- it's not you. It's the economy. There are tons of other new grads who are not finding jobs. Just don't give up hope and work on your marriage. Good luck to you.

Philly BSN grad: no jobs - wait it out or relocate?
RELOCATE! I am a May 08 grad from Boston. There are about a bagillion Boston hospitals here and no one is hiring unless your mom is the nurse manager. I finally caved in January and started applying out of state and finally got offered a job in DC that starts Monday. Best thing I ever did. If you were to join the military it takes about a year for the process to be completed and then start boot camp. Bottom line is you need a job and you need one soon. If Philadelphia isn't proving to be a good market for jobs then go somewhere for a year and come back.

Tips to Keep Up Skills For Unemployed New Grads
I graduated in May 2008 and finally landed a job starting in about a week. During this past year I worked per diem for a corporate wellness company. All I did was travel to a corporate work site and perform the clinic that they needed that day. In the fall it was flu shot clinics. Other times of year I did BP clinics, body fat analysis, cholesterol checks, and more recently sun screens testing people for skim damage. It's very easy work, fun and pays well. I would have never known about this area of nursing if a nurse I knew didn't mention it to me. I would look into companies in your area that do these things. Some insurance companies also hire nurses per diem to perform these clinics.

Taking a Second RN job
Try corporate wellness. I work for a 3rd party who is hired to staff RN's at health events. I get paid mileage and by the hour. It is not stressful and low key. I usually do things like BP clinics, sun damage screenings etc and they are fun!

I'm gonna miss my Crocs... Please Help
When I was in nursing school, the school told us "all white nursing shoes or sneakers"---very similiar to what your school is requiring. I bought these cheap 30$ shoes and wore them once. They killed my feet. After that I went back to my Crocs. All my clinical instructors told us to wear what was comfortable for us. My advice---see if you can stick to what you know is comfortable for your feet. If you cannot, Dansko's are super comfy and are well worth it.

I'm an RN! I can't find a job!
I know exactly how you feel. I graduated in May 2008 from a great school and just recently was offered a position in DC. I am relocating from Boston. If possible, relocate. I wish I had known that prior to graduation. I would have applied out of state, but did not do so until this past winter. Finally, it has paid off and I will be starting a year later than my friends who graduated with me, but at least I have something. Prior to this, I had focused my attention on hospitals that were not hiring and are still not hiring. What a waste of time! I did find work at a per diem corporate wellness company so I was at least doing something with my degree. My advice--- take whatever you can get. Search out LTC, assisted living, group homes, corporate wellness, outpatient clinics, doctors offices, even some insurance agencies need nurses to carry out wellness fairs. I think the reason I was offered my position is because I was doing something with my degree all the while looking for a full time position. It will happen to you. Be patient and don't be picky. Everyone needs to start somewhere. This is the advice I should have taken a year ago. I wish you the best of luck!

Any new grad RN's moving to DC for a job?
Hi everyone! I finally got a job after 1 entire year of searching. I gave up on looking in Boston a few months ago and focused my time on other parts of the country and it finally paid off. I am so happy and fortunate to be given this opportunity. And I am super excited to be moving somewhere else too. I am moving to DC for a job at Washington Hospital Center in July. I was wondering if there were any other new grads in the area who were planning on moving down there. I am looking to make some connections before I head down in July. Anyways, let me know if you are interested!

Any new grads starting at WHC in July?
Hi everyone! I was offered a new grad position at WHC starting in July. I am looking to get in touch with people. I will be relocating from Boston to DC probably mid-July. I am so nervous because I do not really know too many people down there (just a few random people here and there). Sometime in June I am going down apartment hunting. Any good places to live? Anyways, if anyone wants to get in touch or give some advice that would be great. Thanks!

Should I wait for a job that I really want?
I agree with Emilysmom. Take the position on the medical floor. You will learn so much more than a 3 month stint in a camp nursing position. It is not guaranteed that you can find something after the camp nursing gig is over. Good luck to you!

MCPHS Spring 2009
BoSox, I would not state things that you do not know as factual. It can get you in trouble on this board. The user was simply stating her opinion of the school as a student there, which is most likely very factual. I have heard similiar views from friends of mine who have attended. The bottom line is, college is what you make of it and there will be positive and negative views on every nursing school.

SO ANGRY...help!!!
I also wonder if she said these things because I was not kissing her feet about the positions offered and thus felt that I was entitled.

SO ANGRY...help!!!
Hi everyone, I asked the NM to be a reference, and she replied that she would indeed and that "you will make a fabulous nurse." Prior to asking her this, she explained to me that the reason I was not hired at her facility is because I was not "as thrilled about the position" as other applicants. I get it and I would not have hired me either. I checked in with her and the nurses throughout my time there to make sure my performance level was fine and I got very positive feedback from everyone including the NM. There are no formal complaints about me at this facility either. The NM should have told me that she did not wish to be a reference if she felt my performance was not perfect. All I got was positive feedback from her, which is why I used her as a reference. Obviously, had I known she would have said less than favorable things about me, I would not have used her. I have 4 other fabulous references that I use and typically do not use her, but this LTC required a 5th reference. Basically, I am just angry about it because I did not know she felt this way and when given the opportunity to tell me, she chose not to and acted like a phony instead. Thanks for all the advice everyone. If I do not get the job, I plan on obtaining a copy of the reference and going from there.

SO ANGRY...help!!!
Thank you everyone for the advice. I am hoping I get this job at the LTC. The facility was great, the staff supportive, and seems like a great employer since they called me in to explain my side of the story. I will not be getting in touch with the NM and/or seeking legal representation. I am waiting for everything to pan out. Most likely I will not since it seems having her listed as a reference warranted her to voice whatever she wanted. We'll see. But thank you again! I really appreciate everyone's input.

SO ANGRY...help!!!
Hi everyone, I am looking for some advice because I have mixed emotions about this issue. Prior to my graduation, I worked as an aid per diem on an floor for about 3 months. During those 3 months I gave my resume to my nurse manager and said I was interested in working there and to let me know if she had any positions. I also checked in with the nurses I was working with as well as the nurse manager to get any feedback from them about my work. I always got positive responses from them. Towards the end of those 3 months I was called into the NM's office and she let me know she had a position open. I asked about the position, the hours, start date etc. I asked for a later start date and checked if there were other open shifts with her. She said no but there was a possibility of switching. I realize that I should have jumped at anything she offered, but I did not. I think it was fate because I have a feeling I would be miserable there. I found out through an email that I did not get the job. She emailed everyone the floor the new grads and their start dates and I was not one of them I called HR and they told me I did not get the job. I called the NM to find out what the deal was. She told me I was not excited enough about the position and others she interviewed were. Understandable. I then asked her if I could still use her as a reference, and she said of course and that I will make a great nurse. Fast forward to yesterday... I get called in for a 2nd interview at a LTC facility. After checking my references one came up that did not put me in a positive light. They had called the NM and she had told the LTC facility that I had an attitude, felt entitled, and other unfavorable things. The LTC facility thought this odd because why would I give a bad reference? So they called me in to explain myself. I did to the best of my ability and was absolutely shocked when I saw the reference. I had 3 other fabulous references and then this one comes from left field. I am pretty sure what she did was illegal. Is it even worth my time confronting this woman and possibly tarnishing my reputation at this facility? It's a small world where I live and I definitely do not want to jeopardize my future. Would any of you seek legal action? I am so angry and hurt about this. Thanks everyone for the help.

Anyone ever have a Fed. Perkins Loan Cancelled?
I called the lender of my Perkins loan and they told me as long as I am a RN with at least 1 year of full time work under my belt, that the loan can be canceled.
