ABSN guys and girls, which pre-reqs did you take your first semester?

Is Chem/Bio/Stats a good start?

I'm doing chem and nutrition. Hopefully starting out slow. :)

Chem and nutrition..and what about next semester?

Specializes in ICU.

I think I did A&P 1 (& lab), , Nutrition & Health, Microbiology (& lab), and Intro to Psych.

My 2nd quarter was A&P 2 (& lab), Lifespan Psych (2 courses rolled into 1), and Statistics.

My 3rd quarter was A&P3 (& lab), Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, and Nutrition & Disease.

Fun, fun, fun! OK, maybe not, but I got it done.

Did you not need Chem or Bio for your program?

Is Chem really not required for some programs?

Specializes in ICU.

I don't think it was a prerequisite for the nursing program, but chem was a prereq for A&P (and maybe some of the other classes). My undergrad degree was in Chemical Engineering, so I didn't need to take any further chem courses. As to Bio, I can't remember if it was a prereq to any of my prereq courses, or not. I had also done the Paramedic program at that community college back in 1990-1991, and that may have counted towards any Bio requirement (but I don't remember).

Specializes in Endoscopy/MICU/SICU.

I did:

A&P 1, Chem 1, Sociology

A&P 2 by itself over the summer

Chem 2, Micro, Engl

All others I had completed...and yes, chem/bio/stats is a great start. Just make sure you can get A's in them

I think it's usually just Micro/Bio that is required for A&P

I just don't want to think I'm through with all my pre-reqs and then when it comes time to applying for schools have to limit myself since I don't have Chem:(

But getting an A would be near impossible in it, I've struggled with it in the past

Were you able to take Micro without Bio?

A&P 1, Sociology 1, Psy 1, Eng 1

Chem and Physics during summer

A&P 2, lifespan psyc, eng 2, and cpr

was pretty much my first year

I think its better taking one science a semester in order to get those A's :)

i'm taking bio 261 (which is really A&P1), stats and psych

2nd quarter i'm taking bio 262 (which is A&P2), micro and chem

3rd qt i'm taking chem2, nutrition and ethics

i'm kicking myself for not taking harder science classes during my first undergrad go-around! pre-reqs are costing me $7k to get caught up so that i can apply to the accelerated program. ugh.
