A big, fat CPNE failure here

Published

I'm on my way home.

Failed PCS one bacuse while I did everything perfectly I didn't write down the reason I chose my priority nursing diagnosis.

Failed numbee 2 because, while I checked the guys skin under the NC I didn't document it.

Failed IV push on a dummy because they said I was going too fast.

I'm going home. And they didn't have to fail me on the lab. I WAS pushing at the correct rate.

:icon_hug::icon_hug::icon_hug: So sorry to hear that you didn']t get that stupid paperwork just right!

:sasq::sasq:DARN! I know you are BUMMED. I really think you will never make those mistakes again, and your PCS was correct so get back there and get your GN! I work with 3 people who all failed the first try and passed the second. (TOTALY sucks rotten eggs) but you will do it.

Don't let a failure stand in your way.

People actually learn much better when faced

with the adversity of failure, than if they barely pass

the first time.

You seem like a real credit to the Nursing field, so

I hope you don't lose more than a couple of strides

in your sprint to the finish line.

:eek:Soooo sorry to hear that, Sue. I hope you'll try again. Try at different site maybe?:sniff: You're previous notes regarding your experience at the workshop and what you took from it show that you do know your stuff. Don't give up!:bluecry1::bluecry1::bluecry1: Regroup, plan and organize. Take a few days to regroup, plan next course of action, organize how you'll do well for the next time. Sending lots of love your way in hopes of great things to come.:heartbeat

Thanks, all. I really over it, and over the nerves.

And this has sent me in another direction regarding post-ADN work. I will not be going via Excelsior. I am definitely self-motivated yada yada yada but I a tired of not having ANY teaching even when I pay extra for it. Like the DVD that costs an arm and a leg and doesn't teach the CPNE. And the workshop that they told me they limited the participants - yeah, by the number of chairs they could cram into the room.

Bite me.

I understand your fustration with EC. And sorry to say it I agree. They need to put out a teaching DVD or something. :twocents: For what we pay in money and emotions it would be nice to get some direction. Even those who are self motivated need some teaching. Isn't that what a college is supposed to do?:banghead: However, I know you'll be a wonderful nurse remember. it was only the paperwork that got you not your patient care. Your patient care is what matters the most. Don't make hasty decisions but whatever course you choose, keep us posted.:) And most of all, good luck whatever your choice may be.:yeah:

Sue- I agree with you, but I hope you're going to retake the CPNE. I didn't do EC for my BSN myself. But, I had to do a performance exam in my trad BSN program for my health assessment class, and it gave me CPNE flashbacks! It was nice being in a classroom with my peers, though. You'll probably find more flexible ASN-BSN programs in your area. It'll take you about a year, but you can do it 1 day a week for full time while you're working as a RN.

Hi, Baptized.

Oh, I AM retaking as soon as I can get another date, no doubt about it. I know my stuff and nerves and self-doubt (in which I am always awash) won't get me this time.

There are no options where I am. I work at THE most remote rural hospital in NYS and am 60-ish miles to the nearest full-service hospital, let alone BSN program. SUNY Plattsburgh has a DL program and I could actually get there - some folks commute there, although gas prices have them looking closer to home. HA! Empire State is starting a new DL program for which I would need no pre-reqa, and SUNY Stony Brook also has one, but I'd have to take a few course. That's be okay - they'll let me CLEP. Stony Brook is HIGHLY repsected and they have a further NP DL option. They're also $181 a credit for NYS residents.

But I'm disillusioned with them. No, they're not a diploma mill, goodness knows you need to know your stuff to graduate, but there is NO teaching and NO help, hardly.

I've never heard one bad thing about Stony Brook. I hear they're very reputable. Sounds like a great plan!

Sue, I have watched your postings here for a while now. Like someone else said, I look up to you for what you've accomplished thus far. I'm petrified of going all the way through Excelsior, then failing the CPNE. I just don't do well under pressure like that. In any case, I just wanted to say (((I'm sorry))). And I know this won't get you down - you're made of much better stuff that that!:yeah:

If you want to move west by a couple hundred miles, we can do BSN together. I'm looking at Mansfield, Keuka, Elmira or Binghamton. And I don't know off the top of my head if any of them have DL option... I was seriously considering EC for the BSN, but I've about changed my mind.

Someone was telling me about the University of Wyoming...! Tweety got his BSN all online from Florida Health College. There are tons of options, and I'm thrilled you're back in the saddle.

It wasn't the beer, was it?

No beer. A Xanax as big as my head. :D

Where in NYS are you? I'm in Ticonderoga, on Lakes Champlain and George. I thought it was Buffalo. Binghamton sounds positively NYC metro area to me these days. ;)
