A&P teacher from...

...:angryfire you know where.

My A&P teacher is HORRIBLE! I heard from numerous students that he was hard to understand, disliked women in general, made his tests next to impossible to pass and was just a crappy teacher before I started the class, but I have always been a straight A student so didn't think I would have any problems with him...wrong!

Tonight in our lab he was ****** that someone somewhere was whispering so he walked over and shut all the lights in the class off so we were all sitting in pitch darkness. Then when he was in the middle of attempting to explain something he heard someone else talk and quit talking and said "You're all going to be sorry next week when we have the test." and just QUIT talking about it. And these aren't the first things he has done. Last week our first test was over chapters 1-3 and he gave us the test before he even got to chapter 3....so we were testing on something we hadn't even learned!!!!! :banghead:

I walked out of class tonight wanting to cry because I don't feel like I'm getting anything from this class! I really want to learn because I know this stuff is important for my career choice and it's so devastating when you have a teacher that acts like he doesn't even WANT to be there.

Can anyone relate? :sniff:

I am sorry but I can't relate. However, I would have to either talk to the teacher or the Biolgoy director. You are paying this teacher's salary and you deserve to get what you paid for...an education! To be tested on material that was not even covered yet, that is just plain ridiculous. Do something now before you get in any deeper.

I agree with you 100%

omg i cannot believe you are going through this with one of your teachers!!! your post really touched me, especially since i don't usually post very much on here. however, that's jacked the h**l up! what gives this man the right to turn the freaking lights out while you all are trying to learn and get educated? i'm sure none of you have the time nor money to waste playing silly games with this man. i'm sorry but if i were you, i'd have to escalate the issue and get him reported. he's more than likely been getting away with this type of behavior for some time now which is sad. i'd maybe have to go and speak with the academic dean or even the president to inform them of such an immature instructor they have employed to teach students.

i wouldn't necessarily drop the class though, that's a no-no, because if you do he's winning. not to say it's a game, but in essence, it seems that it's all it is with him. please don't drop whatever you do. could you maybe transfer in someone else's a&p class? i sure hope so. again, i'm sorry you have to go through this, but let me say this, i don't know what level you're on spiritually, but if you pray about it, i promise you he will move mountains for you and the outcome will be in your favor if you only believe and trust in him. it's not right what this man is doing, but our creator has a way of working in mysterious ways. may he bless and keep you.

Did his syllabus state that the test would cover chaps 1-3? Or did he just spring it on you at the last minute? If it was the latter that's bad. If you're going to stay with this course and do well you probably need to make an appointment to talk to him asap. If the info about what would be tested when is not on his syllabus at all or if the syllabus isn't clear then you need to get him to clear it up. So ask him to go over it with you - that's his job. If he's unwilling to do that well then it might be time to go to administration.

I'm obviously not at all trying to take his side but the people who were chit chatting while he was lecturing didn't need to do that. It's immature (this is not grade school) and unprofessional, and not to mention disruptive to other people in the class so they might keep that in mind. If they had a question they should have put their hand up and asked the teacher instead of dragging all of you down to a grade school level. Anyway with that said you don't have to like the teacher to get through the class and do well. He could be the most wonderful and likeable person in the world and if you didn't do the readings and get to know the material you still wouldn't do well in the class - kwim? If I were you I'd just follow along with the syllabus, and make use of workbooks, learning materials on the publisher's website, etc. Again communicate with the teacher whenever you are unclear on something so that you are completely sure at all times about what material you need to be focusing on and you will do fine in the class regardless of whether you like him or not. Then give full feedback about the course when they pass around the evaluations at the end and he will find out the truth.

Time to drop or find another section you can transfer into. This class is too important for both your acceptance to nursing school (your GPA) and your nursing school classes. You'll need this knowledge for nursing school! There's no line on your transcript that says, "This teacher was horrible and that's why I didn't do well in this class." If you're not actually learning A&P and/or you think there's a chance you're going to get a crappy grade, get out of the class. Well, at least that's what I would do. Obviously, you have to do what you think is right.

putting it bluntly, the man has at least one screw loose.....i would take the shutting off the lights as a threat to my safety......he needs to get some psychiatric care........

Thank you for all the input guys! I completely agree and I take the class very seriously so I do my best to learn what I can from the books and websites but it can be really upsetting to know I'm paying for this class and getting very little out of it!!! :banghead:

I can't drop because it's past the drop date to avoid having to pay for the class and besides I plan on starting NS next fall and so I need to have this class done so I can do A&P 2 in the spring.

I guess my attitude as of now is just to tough it out, to learn all that I can and to count down the days until I can change teachers next semester!!! :chuckle

Thanks again for listening to my vent session! You guys are all the best. :heartbeat

Aww well my A&P teacher is great but my Chem teacher for my lab part is psychotic as well so I can relate =( I spoke with my teacher that I have for lecture and she mentioned that if I'm really having a problem to talk to the head of the department, which I might do if the problem persists. I think you should talk to the dept. chair as well b/c like someone mentioned, you're paying this man's salary & none of the students in that class should go through that.

I have a craptastic (but no psychotic) A&P I prof too. We litterally learn nothing in lecture. He has power points that he basically reads word for word and that is all lecture is. The power points are NOT detailed either. Are you guys using the Marieb text book by any chance? They have chapter guides online that pretty much are the entire chaper straight from the textbook online as well as interactive diagrams and practice tests.

If it wasn't for hours upon hours of studying from that site and the book I never would have passed our first test. The positive here is that I now know I can do well in an online section of A&P since basically my lectures are pointless.

He gives quizes at the beginning of class on material that he is ABOUT to cover in the lecture just to "make sure we're studying ahead". But since we at least have advanced notice that he's going to do this I can study beforehand.

I guess at this point all you can do is study your tail off knowing that w/ this type of professor anyone doing well in his class will tick him off so you can get your revenge that way! :)

Hey it sounds like we have the EXACT same teacher!!!! :p My teacher talks with a REALLY heavy accent which only makes trying to understand him even more difficult!!! lol

Yes, we're using the same text book you are and yes I use the website religiously! I find out my score on our first exam on Tuesday night but I feel pretty good about it. And I think you're right, I think it ****** him off when people do well. Oh well!!!!
