My first exam was scheduled today, but because of the snow, I have an extra week to study! Yey for me. I was sort of prepared for the exam, but now I should def get a high score because I can nail down all the concepts in my head. This test will be on the first 3 chapters, so not too bad. But I am looking forward to getting it done and moving on with the remainder of the semester.
Hi All,I'm Jeff. 45yo returning student after 20 years in restaurant biz. Took prenursing just out of HS so I have to repeat all my sciences.
a. Only taking A/P1, because I'm still a nonresident and it will cost 3x as much!
b. I'm looking forward to getting started! I remember from AP in 1984 that it was interesting, like a puzzle! We had cadavers, so that kinda weirded me out the first week. Then, I got over it.
c. I should be able to apply for the Spring 2011 semester.
my screenname refers to growing up on a farm in Indiana (although I moved there in my teens and we didn't really farm. We were just located waaay out in the boonies!); then moving to San Diego where I lived for 20 years; then moving to NYC for 2 years. Now I live in Florida (Brevard Co.) with family after being laid off in March 09.
I will be attending pre-nursing at Brevard CC and hopefully transferring to Valencia CC for Nursing.
Question for you all: The reason I'm going to commute to Valencia is to attend an accredited RN program vs. a non-accredited. I can't really seem to get a clear answer about how important it is. I've heard that some scholarships require it, some hospitals don't like hiring from non-accred. schools, and some schools don't fully recognize the classes you take if you decide to go further for a BSN. What have you guys heard about accredited/non- schools?
I look forward to going through AP1 with you all!!
Hi Jeff...A friend of mine graduated with an ADN from a non-accredited school and is now finding it nearly IMPOSSIBLE to continue with her BSN because all of the 4 year colleges and universities in our state require that the ADN come from an accredited school. So, if you're considering even slightly the idea of advancing your degree once you become an RN I would definitely recommend going to an accredited ADN program. On the flip side there are RN-BSN programs available through online universities....the downside there is that they cost an arm and a leg. ALSO, being a graduate of a non accredited program is frowned upon by hospital HRs but since nurses are in dire need it wouldn't hinder you from finding a job, perhaps just not at your first choice location, make sense?
Hope this helps and good luck!
Danielle
I have my first lab practical on Tuesday.
Do you have like 5 different models, with/without keys, shows structures diff? Ill be darned if I can identify tissues types under microscope based on 1 time in lab.
I was told by someone who took this class, that they test us on models we never get to see in lab.
In my lab practical, there were 10 microscopes set up with all the different tissues. Then we watched 10 slides on a projector. I thought it was hard because to me they all look the same. Except for the obvious ones like, nervous or bone tissues. But Dense regular and smooth muscle look alike to me. Also, hyaline and adipose tissues were similiar looking. He gave us a word bank by writing all the tissue names on the board for us. Good luck to those taking the tissue lab practical... you will all do well. Just go with your first instinct. That was my problem, I changed 2 of my answers and they were originally correct.
One thing that is helping me out alot is taking pics of the test material in our open lab time. we have all 23 tissues under the microscopes to test on this friday and everyone took their cameras and took a pic of each one and made note cards. Ya, it is pretty hard to do but once you get it it's worth it. Willing to help out and post pics of ours but its better to memorize your own I would think as your looking at the exact one you will be tested over and they can be different colors on slides sometimes.

To sound completely boor-ish, that's what I had to resort to when taking an online economics class.
I hated that class with such a passion. No more economics for me if I can avoid it.
