Hi y'all! Anybody taking A&P 1 this coming spring semester? I'm trying to get as many pre-req's out of the way as possible and could use a study buddy or 2! Thanks! :)
Hi everyone. I haven't posted on this board before, but I cerainly share in everyone's pain here.Plugging through A&P I here. Anyone had their first lab practical exam yet? I managed to survive my first lecture exam last week, but I'm really worried about the practical. Is it common for schools to have 2 separate grades (one for lab and another for lecture)? That's how my school does it, and I've never seen it done that way.
I've had two practical lab exams so far: tissues (complete with the sea of microscopes and slides) and bones. We don't get a separate grade for lab and lecture, but I can understand splitting it that way. They really are essentially two separate classes with coursework for each one. My professor joked that we were getting a great bargain: paying for 4 credits, but getting 12 credits worth of information .
Is anyone on here from FCCJ that is taking the class online?
My teacher says our first proctored exam is not written by her but by the board, I wonder what type of questions will be on it? Our teacher didn't give us a hint.
What I am worried about is the first Exam is over 10 chapters...I am studying and getting everything in, I just really hope I do well.

My first lab practical is next week and I'm worried about it too! Your school sounds like mine...lecture and lab are seperate classes with seperate grades. We only have 2 lab practicals and they count for 90%(!!!) of our grade...yikes!!! So basically if I mess up a lab practical my grade is hosed:uhoh21:. Is that how your lab is set up?

On the good side (I guess), we do have 3 practicals. The first 2 are worth 50% and the third is our comprehensive and it is the other 50%. Ouch! I guess they want to make sure that we understand the material. Or, another way to look at it, is they want to make sure if we don't understand it, then we don't pass the lab. All I know is that I'm dreading it. Between this and Chem, I'm about to scream/cry....something. Really stressed here. I'm not a whiner, but I'm starting to feel like one.
We have lab and lecture separte but it counts as one grade. 80% lecture 20% lab but you have to get at least a b- in lab. He has 3 mid terms set up for each class he said one mid term and a final would be too stressful. Our first lecture mid term was over 4 chapters, I got an 84%, the lab mid term was over tissues and mitosis with microscopes and pictures out of our book, I got 100% on that. We took mid term # 2 last night for lecture and the lab one is tomorrow. Lecture was 5 chapters and lab will be over bones. I hope I do well. Our last mid term (final) will be 7 chapters long. I am aiming for a high B but hoping for an A.
Ever get to the point where you just feel like you can't read another thing about a dense connective tissue or a specialized connective tissue? I got that way last night. I could not read another word. Before long, the crying spell happened. (I don't think I cried this much when I was pregnant!) I like to think I'm pretty tough and that I can handle a lot of studying, but this is unreal! Maybe this really is the "weed 'em out" course people talk about! Okay, back to studying!

I can so relate to what you are saying! My "crying" class happens to be Chemistry right now, but I'm sure before long A&P will get me too. I don't know about you, but it seems to help a little in the stress relief department. Then, you just brush yourself off and get on with it.

Oh, yes. There's a point when I feel absolutely certain my brain is leaking out or actually ready to explode. I can't hold even one more idea in there without something giving way. This is when I step away from the textbook and take a half hour breather before immersing myself again in action potentials and synovial joints and osteons. My yoga teacher says nursing students alway "look kind of twitchy". Hey, I resemble that statement and I'm not even a nursing student yet!

My school has the lecture and lab grades combined into one. My lecture exam is tomorrow now, and I've studied all I can study. I just have to hope it doesn't get canceled due to weather again! I'm ready to get this thing over with already!
