Hi y'all! Anybody taking A&P 1 this coming spring semester? I'm trying to get as many pre-req's out of the way as possible and could use a study buddy or 2! Thanks! :)
Morning all...just dropping by for a few minutes to get some encouragement from others going thru A&P I. This is the toughest course I've ever taken! As many have said before, there's just so much stuff to learn! I finally got over the hurdle I faced on the chemistry part (well, most of it anyway), and now I'm facing the tissues hurdle. It seems like for every tissue, organ, process, etc. that you must learn, there are at least 50 components to that organ, process, tissue that you have to memorize. I'm backlogged now! The chemistry and cellular metabolism portions took me a while to get so I had to stay on those like white on rice! I'm taking the course online, so I'm kind of able to pace myself. But in trying to make sure I understood everything from a chapter, I got behind on the chapter for the upcoming week. Not to mention the labs we have to complete and the discussions we have to participate in! And we have a chapter test every week! And I work full-time and have a 4-year old! I'm feeling very overwhelmed. I've got an exam on cellular metabolism, tissues and the integumentary system coming up on the 23rd. I just got to the point where I understand cellular metabolism! I've gone through a bit of the tissues chapter, but have to finish that, complete the lab, learn the integumentary chapter, complete the lab, and study for the exam on all 3 chapters! Now, that I've whined and gotten it off my chest, it's time to get off the computer so I can get some work done and study some more!
Got my grade back for exam 1 and I got an 87. On one hand I'm annoyed because I studied very hard and wanted an A, but then again the class average was a 71 so I guess I came out on top. Hopefully I can bust my @$$ even harder next time and get an A!
An 87 is great! Congratulations and the next time, there's an A with your name on it!
I have a test on Chapters 1-4. The most difficult to study is the Genetics chapter 4 .I also studied daily for chapter we did that week and the first 4 weeks flew by. Now I am reviewing for my first big lecture test Tue and also a tissue test. Im a little nervous and tired from my late nights studying . I hope to at least get a B for this test.
.
I know with :bowingpur God's help i can do this.

You said it..."with God's help I can do this"! Good luck on your test, too!

I hear ya! I myself am not a fan of the tissue chapter either:bugeyes:. Hang in there and just keep working at it, you'll do great!
Does anyone else hate bones as much as I do? I mean good lord, why does every speck and notch and ridge and bump have some crazy name that I have to memorize?! Every time I so much as SEE a skull in lab I'm nearly overcome with an urge to hurl it across the room:angryfire...ok, I'm done now!
I'm a little over half way through A&P I now. We've had a test on tissues/overall body organization/directional terms (got a 97.5% on that - yay!) in lecture, and a tissues lab test (98%) and a bones lab test (don't have that grade back yet). Next is a test on joints/nervous system, which I'm trying to wrap my brain around. Joints is proving especially hard for some reason, though I also need to figure out action potentials and really get that in my head well. The bones exam was really hard because there's just no good way to study bones and their markings from a book or online - you need the actual bones so you can figure out where things are and what articulates with what. I found myself wishing I had a skull, a scapula, a coxal bone, and a femur to take home and study. Perhaps a few representative vertebrae, too.

Congrats for doing really great on those tests:yeah:.But I find myself laughing at the above quote a little, thinking that you already have all those bones, you just cant see them

Oh, yes, I laughed at that fact many times! If only I could take my femur out and study the markings....:icon_roll
I actually had my two boys quiz me by pointing to a part of their body and asking me which bone it was. They thought it was really cool that I could name anything they thought of!
Because of my class being canceled last week due to ice, and our first exam pushed back until this week, I've been trying to push all of the first four chapters into my brain, along with the beginning of the skeletal chapter. My brain hurts I think. lol I've never studied for a test this much in my life!
Hi everyone. I haven't posted on this board before, but I cerainly share in everyone's pain here. Plugging through A&P I here. Anyone had their first lab practical exam yet? I managed to survive my first lecture exam last week, but I'm really worried about the practical. Is it common for schools to have 2 separate grades (one for lab and another for lecture)? That's how my school does it, and I've never seen it done that way.

I think almost every A&P class starts off with the regional/anatomical terms, body quadrants, and planes of section. I memorized anterior v. posterior, superior v. inferior, etc. first because it's needed for every other chapter. Also go over the basic chem stuff because you'll either be tested on it or need to know it just to understand the physiology aspect. It's a pretty safe bet that you'll need to know tissues and bones pretty soon into the course too. Those four sections seem to be the ones everybody has been working on first. Good luck to you!!!
