I just decided that I want to go into nursing. I am switching over from a Business major. Thissemester I took English 101, next semester I am taking Algebra/Psychology/English 102. After that semester I will be switching over and I plan on starting A&P I.
How hard is it really? Is it as bad as they say?
Also, I currently work full time and will be taking classes at night. When I take A&P I, should I take it with a language class or anyother child psychology instead of with another science, would it be too much?

I think it all depends on the person and how you deal with science courses. A&P is mainly memorization, yes, you have to know some concepts, but it is mainly memorizing structures in the body and how they work. I find A&P to be somewhat easy, I find it so interesting, that it is a subject that I actually enjoy studying. Don't get me wrong, it is challenging, but if you study effectively, you will have no problems. I plan on taking A&P II next semester along with Developmental Psychology. I'm not nervous about it because they are different types of sciences, one is more like a liberal science rather than a lab science. But good luck to you and all your efforts, are you going for your BSN or ADN?

No, it's not that bad. It is a LOT of material to cover and, for me, it was completely uncharted territory. As in, I had never had any background in anatomy or physiology or anything remotely medical so it was all foreign.

Right now I am starting with ADN, then I want to work and then probably go for my bachelors.

Boy to me AP is the best, AP and micro, once I took those classes I said "yup this is exactly where I want to be". Your finally taking classes that will mean something to you as a nurse. I would take the sciences over any english/hummanities type class any day!! I just finished a short term communications class online, it was pure torture, i miss AP and can't wait to get started in it again when I start nursing school!
oh and I agree don't take two sciences together, not your first semester back anyway, ease into it. Two sciences if very do able depedning on what else you have going on, but I think it's wise to get a feel for things first before attempting to bite off more then you can chew, and then getting burned out.

A&P isn't all that difficult a subject, in terms of it being fairly easy to understand. What will trip some people up, however, is that A&P requires a disproportionate amount of time, compared to your other courses. So if you spend 5 hours a week on Psych, expect to spend 15 or 20 hours a week on A&P! It's just that there is a lot of memorization and you have to learn many, many, many facts and how they all fit together.
I'm taking A&P and Chem together, with no problem, but that's because I love Chem and find it easy.
Good luck!

Nothing is bad, you just have to study. That's it. I would say, devote 10hrs a week for AP and you will do fine. I am working full time, have two kids, and taking AP1 and algebra now. I still have time for my personal life and I do well in my classes. I would say, you can get almost anything done, it just depends how bad you want it.

I took it at a community college and it wasn't bad at all, I got a 95% in the class. I have heard that community college's "dumb down" their courses compared to universities.

anatomy is a not one of those classes where you can't wait until a few days before an exam to study. You have to study and memorize from DAY ONE. You cannot let yourself get behind. There is so much to learn, but it is still very interesting. My professor is tough, but I do love this class.

I pretty much agree with what everyone else is saying. I am halfway through my semester of A&P I at a community college and am maintaining an A in the class so far. I decided to move back in with my parents for cheaper rent and only have to work part-time nights. From what I've experienced so far, and from what my professor has told us, A&P I is more of the memorization aspect (the Anatomy) and A&P II will be more of the physiology and deal with how all the body systems work etc... Its definitely not impossible to do well, but you do have to work hard and keep up with the material because you don't want to be trying to memorize 206 bones along with their bumps and grooves the night before the test. Oh and one more thing, I've heard over and over that you shouldn't take any other science classes when you're taking A&P. I am also taking Psychology 235 which is a human growth and development class and although I am having a lot of trouble being interested in the class, I'm keeping an A too, so you can probably handle both of them together just fine. Hope this helps

It really depends on you! I took A&P I, Chem, and Psych all in one semester, plus worked, was pregnant and had 2 kids at home! A&P is mostly memorization- a LOT of it- But, if you want it bad enough it's definitely possible. I finished that semester w/ all A's, so maybe that will encourage you! Don't take on more than you feel you can handle because you definitely don't want your grades to suffer. My advice would be to find out from others the "good" teachers at your school- I had great teachers- lots of work still, but if they make it interesting, it'll be much easier to understand! You've already had many classes, so it's not like this is your first go at it... Good luck!

Hey there. Dont mean to be nosy but your response to that other user caught my attention. I was thinking about take A&P 2 along with Dev Psych at El Centro. How did it go for you as far as assignments and studying to different sciences? Hope to hear from ya.
