  1. Thanks everyone for your helpful suggestions and encouragement.I appreciate it.
  2. Well I cant take A&P 2 anymore, the class is full now. The professor is one of the best, his lectures are great. He actually gives us many examples of emergeny situations and critical care situations on every a&p section we cover. What a bummer, now I have to wait till next spring. What other classes would ya recommend since college algebra, micro,a&p are full(meaning the best professors for the respective courses). Right now I'm schedule to take Dev Psych and Film Appreciation....what else should I take?
  3. Hey there. Dont mean to be nosy but your response to that other user caught my attention. I was thinking about take A&P 2 along with Dev Psych at El Centro. How did it go for you as far as assignments and studying to different sciences? Hope to hear from ya. Jason
  4. Hi everyone, I have a question about an issue thats running through my mind as a volunteer at the ED. So the volunteer dress policy is a polo shirt and dress slacks, and comfy shoes, but the weekends I have spent volunteering, I've had a good amount of pt contact( helping nurses move pt's)and cleaning pt rooms and changing linens. Now what bothers me is that I dont feel comfortable(sanitary) wise. I would at least like to wear scrub bottoms since I would hate to bring home some of the stuff that I have come into contact with. Now would it be right to bring this up with the volunteer director or should I just deal with it as is? I'm a real proactive volunteer, alot of the staff have taken a great amount of appreciation for my efforts. I dont like to stand around like some mindless bum, I want to help out however I can. So what do you suggest I do? I dont want to look like some nurse wannabe in front of the staff, I just want to look out for my safety.
  5. Well first off, I want to become a nurse. Paramedic or EMT was on my mind at first but, I rather do my service as a nurse. It's something I feel real close to,almost as if it were a calling. And yes I agree very much about the whole civilian world breed, and it reminds me how much I miss the military.
  6. I was an ammo technician with an artillery battery(Fox and Echo Btry 2/11),but due to the war, I became more of a provisional rifleman/gunner and military police. But during that transitional training, I got combat lifesaver training. So basically I didn't have a high speed job like yours but I believe I benefited from the training I received.
  7. Hello everyone! I'm currently a pre-nursing student and a former Marine with aspirations to make a smooth transition into the health field. Lately I find it difficult to get a job in the medical field without any depth of experience in health and I would like to get my feet more wet than just volunteering at the ED at hospital. The only experience I have is being able to handle traumatic environments, CPR, and first responder training( Combat Life Saver Training). Now it has been running through my head lately that if joining the AF Reserve or Army Reserve would be a good idea in gaining significant experience in health. Now before I seek out a recruiter I would like to get some insight from nurses and pre-nursing students alike, should I make this move?On the plus side, the money wouldn't be bad and the job security entailed with it while our economy goes down hill. Please let me know what all of you think or suggest. Thanks for the great forums on Allnurses.com and lets keep it up. Jason USMC 03-07
  8. Hello everyone! Well to begin I wouldn't say my last job sucked because I loved what I did as a Marine. I'am proud to say that I served with America's finest men and women, theres nothing more rewarding than knowing that I could count on the men and women I served with. Be it as it may, things went sour, well with the quagmire that is Iraq and having done two deployments to that destroyed country and witnessing little "reconstructive" progress I decided it was time to move on with my life,so after 4 years and 1 month of service I threw down the towel and moved on. I dont blame the Marine Corps, I blame the corporate political gambit that has taken control over our armed forces for my departure. So here I'am now, 5 months out of the military, and I thankfully made the decision to go into nursing. I was enrolled in Visual Comm.,but I just could'nt see the importance of it or the satisfaction of it. Unfortunately my father went into diabetic shock one Sunday afternoon and from there on is when I actually witnessed a job that I could see myself perform in.I saw how well the nurses performed on saving my father's life and giving him the proper care and observation at the hospital, the head nurse even went out of his way to call me every few hours to keep updated on my dad's condition; I couldnt thank him enough for the great job he did. After several days, it was really revolving through my head that I could do this, that I could really find satisfaction and personal gratitude in this field. Its mainly about all the intrinsic factors that appeal to me.Here I'am now a pre-nursing student and excited about successfully finding something I can pursue. It must be a blessing because unfortunately alot of veterans dont find a calling or a successful transition. Sadly they succumb alcohol and drugs. Well I pray that with proper guidance and motivation I make it through this. I hope everyone else here makes it through too. Jason(USMC OIF VET)
