Kayel, thank you!! for sharing your notes :) It made the whole concept easier! But I don't think I did so well on the exam :imbar When I looked at the exam, my mind just went blank. That normally doesn't happen to me, so I was kinda freakin out haha anyway I did the best I could & I remembered your little drawings!
Julie64, what more can I say that hasn't been said already?? Everyone on this board is so supportive & that's whats great about it. Glad to know that you took the afternoon off to enjoy your family!
Is anybody on here going to be doing Micro with A&P II spring semester? I just signed up for both of them yesterday - both 100% online. I hope I'm not overdoing it, but that's all I need for pre-reqs, so I want them out of the way! :)
I plan on doing Micro and A&P II next semester. That's all I have left for my pre-reqs too! I'm hoping since they're the only 2 classes that I'm taking that I'll do alright. Good luck to you, I'm sure we'll need all the luck we can get:rolleyes: :rotfl:
Well, maybe you did better than you think! Sorry my notes were so late and kind of messy. Oh well! I do like our lab instructor. She does talk a mile a minute but she puts it into simple terms, so much so that I sometimes wonder why a certain concept seemed so complicated before. She said that the professor has been teaching so long and he knows it so well that he's pretty much completely forgotten what it's like to be starting out and hearing it for the first time, which is true. I do like the prof too, though, and find his lectures clarify some things, but I definitely have to read ahead and try to get a grasp of it on my own first.Kayel, thank you!! for sharing your notes :) It made the whole concept easier! Next week we have a practice lab test (we have only one lab test per term so it's a biggie). I am starting to freak out slightly over the immensity of what we could be tested on. I'm sure I will do okay and I have heard the practice exam really helps.
Oh, the prof finally finished marking the midterm (I think). At the last class (he was still marking at that point), he said that this class has had the highest marks in 5 years so far. Cool. We are keeners! I am wondering if it's partly due to the nursing program getting more competitive and larger. I do know there are many people taking it for a second time also. Hmmmm Anyway, again, I just need to remember to worry about myself and help whoever I can along the way!! I hope we all get A's!
Hey, St. Pauli!! How did you do? Hope you aren't fainted somewhere in a dark hallway. HUGS! Have you made a lot of friends in the class? Do you have a study group of some kind? Sending you a hug and wanted you to know I've missed seeing you over the past few days!I am getting my test back from psycho tomorrow.....he can take the will to live from people. I met one of his students from a different section today, and the poor lady is even worse flustered than I am.....aaarrrggghhh. I hoope I made at least a B on the test. I'ts depressing and demoralizing to be in his class.
So ... any help for my brain? LOL likely not! We are at that spot (the brain) in the course and it's really interesting but I'm having trouble absorbing all the different areas, etc. He said we would be going over it slowly in class, which is good, because I will need that!
On Friday we went through our test. He projected it onto the overhead screen but it was so small that between that and trying to concentrate on the concept in the question, it turned out to be an intense focusing exercise -- at least for me!! I think if you didn't really care and/or could see it a little better, it wouldn't have mattered. We were fairly close so I have no clue how the people further back saw anything at all. My friend beside me was writing down the correct letter answers so she can ask him to see her test later and see what she got wrong and she kept freaking out, asking me what letter it was and repeating that she couldn't see it at all and said twice that she should move to the front (but didn't)! That part was kind of hysterical. I just wrote down a few words on the ones I thought I got wrong.
Anyway, any help on the brain for this poor brain that is trying to be a brain but feeling braindead? :stone
Hey, everyone!
Haven't been to this thread in a while...just survived mid-terms! Thanks to everyone's helpful mnemonics and links to muscle contraction animations :thankya: , I got a 94% on my lecture mid-term!
Also found out yesterday that I got the highest grade in the class on my lab mid-term and have the highest grade in the class for the semester so far! I was honestly SHOCKED!! Our lab prof. grades on curves. So, even though my mid-term was really a 94%, since it was the highest grade, it became a 100%. I was excited, to say the least! I was debating taking A&P 2 lab next semester with this same instructor, because he'll be teaching it on Sat. mornings. I LOVE his teaching style, but I really don't want to wake up early on Saturdays. But, after hearing about my grade, I've made my decision! I'll be waking up early on Saturdays after all! LOL
Oh! In lab, we started the brain yesterday. We dissected a sheep's brain (it's SO small! no wonder they're so stupid!! LOL) and also looked at the cadaver. They had his whole head cut in half and spread open (a sagittal section). Ten years ago, I probably would've grossed out on that! LOL But, here I was...looking inside this guy's head, about an inch away. You know what? It was SOOOOOOOO COOL, seeing his brain and skull and nasal cavity! Maybe I am cut out to be a nurse after all. LOL I'll admit though, it was a little gross seeing his nose hairs intact! LOL After class, I told hubby all about it ("the cadaver's head was cut in half, and we saw the skull and brain and..."), but he started turning a little green, so I stopped! :rotfl:
BTW, I remember seeing a mnemonic for the cranial nerves somewhere in this thread, but I can't find it (and I need it now). If any of you have it, would you mind re-posting it for me? THANK YOU!!!!! :)

I'm there for ya, babe! Just found this in my wanderings today. I added it to the first post of this thread.BTW, I remember seeing a mnemonic for the cranial nerves somewhere in this thread, but I can't find it (and I need it now). I Olfactory / II Optic / III Oculomotor / IV Trochlear / V Trigeminal / VI Abducens / VII Facial / VIII Vestibulocochlear / IX Glossopharyngeal / X Vagus / XI Spinal Accessory / XII Hypoglossal
It's so familiar when I see it but I didn't remember it until I did .. make sense?
Hey, I thought of you yesterday when we were dissecting piggies because I was thinking really thinking it looked like chicken.
BTW, congrats on the great mark!!
Congrats!!!!! Feels great, doesn't it?
Here's my mnemonic:
Old Opal’s Ocular Tracts Tricksters Abducting
Four Vested Giants Vaguely Acting Hypoactive.
Also, I have more listed at: http://www.nursingjourney.com/mnemonics_for_cranial_nerves.htm as well as a song at: http://www.nursingjourney.com/cranialnervessong.htm
Good luck!!!!
..........I have quizzes posted as well that may help! :)
LOL! I am sitting here -- presumably having a blonde moment -- when I found the rhyme I was thinking, "What are 'hops'? Oh, they are talking about the olympics and they are at a hurdling event ... I guess?!" I couldn't resist....well you know us Germans and hops:rotfl:
Um ... er .... then I just said to dh, "What is 'hops'?" ...... boyyyyyy do I feel stupid ..... but that's okay -- I just put together that "lats" refer to "latissimus dorsi".
:chuckle :rotfl: :chuckle :rotfl: :chuckle :rotfl: :chuckle :rotfl: :chuckle
SERIOUSLY CRACKING UP!!
Good thing I wasn't drinking anything because I likely would have either done a tremendous spit take or snorted it through my nose. I am NEVER going to forget the cranial nerve rhyme again.
