Hi everyone,
My midterm practical is on the 11th, so I'm studying hard for that. In lecture we're doing DNA Structure and Mitosis. Everything is going well so far, I still have an A (thank the Lord). My counselor suggested that I CLEP College algebra, so I don't have to deal with it in the spring. I think it's a good idea, I'll already be up to my orifice in A&P II and Micro.
Hey guys!
I'm 6 wks. into my A&P and am loving it SO much more than Micro.!! Just finished my first lecture and lab exams and got 98% on both of them, which was very encouraging!
We're currently on joints in lab and just started muscles in lecture. Today, in lab, we looked at the knee joint on a cadaver, as well as a separate knee joint (by itself, not attached to a cadaver). You know how I know I'm meant to be an RN? While we were looking at the dissected knees, I was thinking about how HUNGRY I was for lunch!! How SICK is that?!
LOL
By the way, I'm a dental hygienist and nursing will be a second career for me.

Okay I need to vent a little bit.
We had our 1st lecture exam on Monday, got them back on Wednesday. I got a 81 on mine, but the class average was 67.89 A LOT of people got upper 50's lower 60's.....
But this is the kicker....we can correct our exam, with 3-5 sentances (instead of just the answer is "B") and receive 1/2 credit. This basically mean, if you got a 60, and you correct every answer you got wrong, you will end up with an 80. So these people can raise their grade by 2 letter scores...from a D to a B.
I, being that I got an 81, can only raise mine 9.5 points. From a B to an A. Now I know, an 81 is a great score, compared to these other scores. but I dont find it fair that they can go from a D to a B and I can only go up 1 letter grade....
I also wonder, if now, people will just assume that they will always be able to correct for 1/2 credit and wont study as much as they should/would if we didnt know we can do this. She did not say we could do this with every exam, but I'm going to guess some will study less.
Just irritates me that I busted my butt studying to get the 81, and now people who originally had D's can have the same score as me!

that's terrible, I also made a B on our first exam and it was the highest grade in the entire class, many failed! But that's ridiculous. One word of comfort for you...if they don't understand the material they still might not be able to answer even given a second chance. But I feel your pain, trust me. things are pretty fishy in my class also. Concentrate on yourself and the next exam. I know it is hard not to do but don't worry about the other's grades but yours which in my book is awesome considering the circumstances! Pat yourself on the back, you did well!!!!!
I understand your thoughts. I had the highest grade first two out of 3 lecture exams & the first 2 out of 3 lab practicals.
So, I set the curve. Granted, I ended up with 4 100's out of 6 grades, and 90's somethings for the last two, so I didn't care too much.
However, there was one misgraded question. Everyone else got an extra point out of it if they had marked it correctly, but the scan-tron machine marked in wrong. I asked him about mine. He said if I got that extra point, it would ruin everyone else's curve. Of course, I didn't do it, but I felt that I deserved 101% if everyone else got their extra points b/c of my curve AND their extra point for being misgraded.
Like I said, I didn't ruin the curve for everyone, but didn't really think it was fair. Yes, the instructor didn't have to offer curves, but that wouldn't have hurt me at all. I would have still made a high A!
You can't go higher than an A. So, that may be an advantage to you. Those only going to B will have to work harder on other tests if they want an A.
Good luck.

Stuff like that just IRRITATES ME! Who cares if it ruins the curve for them...if they had studied and applied themselves as much as you, they could have set the curve....ughhhhhh here I thought professors would be fair...huh thats what thinkin does for me!
We dont have curves, but heck- being able to redo your exam for 1/2 credit makes up for that!

Oh man ..... well, first of all, congratulations on your awesome score! It really is an acoomplishment!!! Second of all, I can definitely see how you woudl be ticked. I don't see how it's fair to be able to raise a score 2 letter grades. I can see that she maybe wants people to feel success in the course but for one thing, it does somewhat encourage lazy study habits, while slightly discouraging the people who put the work in in the first place, and it also scares me a bit that some people truly don't know the material but will still pass the course.Okay I need to vent a little bit.We had our 1st lecture exam on Monday, got them back on Wednesday. HUGS ... at least you can look forward to reaching a good solid A! Do they give out +'s?
Wow, good stuff!!! You rock on the lab and lecture tests!! We have our first test on the 26th (drumming fingers on table, haha, no not ready, just want it out of the way). Good luck with your other courses too!yes, I'm actually taking 13 credits (just how it worked out becasue of A&P being 5)Im actually taking 1 class that I don't even need, but I only needed a 2 credit class to get at least 12 and I didn't want to overwhelm myself with 15 credits.
I'm taking english, word processing, math for health (this is the one I did not need, but ohwell...it is fun and I'm learning :) ) and then the A&P.
So far I'm doing great. I got 100 on my first lab test and a 95 on my lecture test. But this weeks is gonna take a bit more focus and me reading it over and over to understand it.
We are learning the cells (rough ER, smooth ER, nucleus, etc.) I have a hard time learning things I can't see with my own eyes :chuckle:
but I'm sure I'll get it.
