A&P I: Fall '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

So, I'm in! I've got this and College algebra and I'm DONE with all my pre-reqs and related courses. I dropped this this past Spring, so I know how hard it is. Hopefully I'll have a better instructor this time that actually knows how to teach the class.

Ok so i took my first test last thursday on chapters 1-4 the class average was 54.81 I made a 58:crying2: . My instructor said that I still have a chance to get an A in the class .

Does your instructor drop the lowest? ours does, and I sure hope this 77 is the one to get dropped!

Just look at it this way- you were ABOVE the class average.......to me that means more than the ##

I can honestly say after seeing my score and the class average, all of the fear of a/p I had, is gone....I can ace this class

I have my first lecture exam next wed. I am extremly worried and scared. It is on the first 3 chapters and a lot of info to retain. Not only definitions but he also want us to make a homeostasis chart and just a lot of things. I hope I can do it. Good luck next time. it will get better now that you know what to expect :) What type of test did you have, what was on it, was it multiple choice ?

Is this normal for a lab exam?

Our instructor says on the lab exam next week, we will have to look in the microscope and identify each type of tissue (simple squamous, transitional, stratified cuboidal, areolar..etc) presented, give a written definition and where it is located in the body. There are about 12 of these, and then the rest we do not have slides for- but will have to remember definitions and body locations. This is on top of having to memorize the body parts, all the parts of a cell, directional terms, metric conversions and all the labels for the parts of bone tissue. And this is just the lab exam, it's not even part of the lecture exam.

I am feeling very overwhelmed. The memorizing of stuff I pretty much have down, but this tissue recognition thing has thrown me for a loop. Is this normal or excessive? :crying2:

We have our histology practical in 2 weeks and we have to look at 24 tissues under the microscope and be able to point out various parts, their locations and their functions.

Hi Micci,

Yes, this is what our first lab practical exam will include. I'll be spending extra time in the lab studying these slides so that I can identify them etc. backwards and forwards. Yes it's alot to study and learn, but it just takes study time to digest and absorb.

hey Micci ! your assignment seems just like ours. Aren't you in cuny school, in NY? ot maybe because all the A&Ps are the same :) anyways, good luck!

Anyone know of a good way to memorize/learn the 6 structural Levels??

(Chemical, Cell, Tissue, Organ, Organ System & Organism)

Maybe it's just wishful thinking that there could be some cute way to memorise this!

I just remember by CCTOOO- CC TOO BUT WITH EXTRA O. works for me.

A & P is the most important pre-req for nursing school. It is the foundation for understanding everything from skin breakdown to how medications work. Get the most out of it you can!

Best of luck to all the up and coming nursing students, we need you!

Thank you so much, I hope that I survive the class :chuckle

Our teacher relates a lot of the things to the application in nursing....he gives great examples. He goes beyond what the book says... That's one thing I like about him.

I know that regardless of the outcome I will not see the world the same way again....biology is fascinating!

No, I'm at COD in IL.

I'm OK now. I've gone over the tissue pictures in my lab book and my lecture book, and my cd that comes with the lab book. Last night we looked at the slides again. I've been sketching out the slides on note cards, so I can see the variations and similarities between each picture & slide of the same tissure. I got that feeling last night where everything was falling into place, and I knew I had it and have what it takes to pass the class. I am never sure until I get that feeling.

Just a reminder, we have monthly threads for Fall 2005 A&PI so if we keep all the questions in one thread, then everything is in one place (well, times number of months) ... not a hard and fast rule by any means but I don't want to miss anything! LOL ....... here is the link for September:

I'm enjoying Anatomy but it's a lot of work! Tomorrow I have my second lab in which we look at tissues and such. Woo hoo!

I'm enjoying reading about everyone's trials and tribulations with A&P and learning so much from you all!

I see. sorry to hear that, we could study in groups :) . we are going to have the lab quiz identifying right tissue thing, identifying the bones and skin next wednesday. so I have attached lots of pictures with skeleton's parts on it all over my home. BTW, PPl that helps !!!!! whereever you look, you will see those parts.

Yeah, you're right it's lots of reading. I took Bio classes as Genetics, general microbio, but none were so much to read. uhhh, hope to get my that A

good lcuk everyone
