  1. I do understand that it takes so much expenses to train foreign nurses and the whole immigration issues. How come then U.S is not treating international students educated in US differently? US trained foreign nursescould work temporarily with working visa and get experienced and US nursing shortage could be solved? I never get why they do not do this...
  2. Hi, I have completed my nursing program June 2nd, but there is one more class I wanted to take for summer in order to get A.S degree both in nursing and bio. Does NY BON allow me to take NCLEX now without my associates degree, but with completion of the nusring program and all the requirements? thanx.
  3. Dear Lawrence what are those some parts of US? Just share what you heard, so I would take those states out.
  4. Hi guys, I am foreign student studying in Nursing Program in US school. I am graduating anytime soon and planning on trasnfering to 4 year college. I have a choice of 50 states with hundreds of schools each. Can you please help me narrow down my list to states which are more likely to hire foreign nurse on OPT status. I do understand the whole matter with retrogression. I just want to know the states which are more likely to hire me at least for a year now. I am very grateful for your answers. p.s How realistic for me to stay in NY?
  5. Suzanne where can I find the list of those 15 facilities? Are they throughout the US? Thanx a lot for all the help.
  6. Hi guys, I have been reading this forum and I am very thankful to all of you. Need some advice on my particular situation. Thanx. Is there an hospitals in NY who hire RNs who are on OPT? if no, what are neighboring states that are more friendlier to RNs under OPT? After my OPT is expired, I am planning on continuing my education on different major, let's say Biology. But, parallel with studying in Biology, can I still work as RN using my CPT, for 20hrs/week ? Or should my CPT externship should be related to the major I am currently studying, which would be Biology at that time? just any advice is appreciated, on how can F-1 student who is RN(trained in US), who is studying in college under F-1 can work as RN at the same time during this retrogression period? also should I file I-140 after my graduation from Nursing, although I am planning on continuin my education under F-1?
  7. oh I see. I though this april release of H-1b is specifically for nurses, but if it includes all the other professions, makes sense not to be left in hours now H-1b is also out of the list...
  8. why H-1B will be gone within hours when released?
  9. can you or someone else explain why it's not recommended to file I-140 if I plan to file for F-1 in the future again. How about I am going to remain on my F-1 and parallel with that apply for I-140? is it also not recommended? if no, why not?
  10. Lawrence01, thanx for thorough information on the current situation of international students. I just wanted to assure some things that you have mentioned above. H-1B visas , would they be available after april'08? why April, not now immediately? Will it be available, or still gonna be under question as new graduate won't get it, and specialist get it? when they say specialist, do they mean NP, Nurse midwife....? I searched in this forum regarding h-1c visa, but could not find why those 14 hospitals are not the best places to work? is it because of bad working conditions? bad salary? bad location? can u just give me link where it was dicussed I 'll read it up. Thanx again for all the info. It cleared many things.
  11. I am little late, but really wanted to congratulate such an altruistic person as Suzanne4. Happy Birthday !!!!! You dedicate so much of your time to answer to our questions, not once but many many times to the same questions :). You protect us from lieing agencies and lieing attorneys ,letting us know all the legal information. Just thank you very much for all the help you offer to so many people !!!! You have a good life
  12. Kingsborough says that they want minimum GPA of 2.5, but in reality they don't accept with that GPA. They probably will accept with minimum GPA of 3.0 from pre-requisite courses and good NLN results. My friend who had overall GPA of 2.7 and pre-requisite courses(A&P I, English 12, Psychology, Sociology, Science 25) GPA of 3.2 and good NLN results got accepted last semester.
  13. I am taking Microbiology right now, and I'll say that it's one of the most useful classes for Nursing after A&P I, II. Although our class requires a texbook by Black "Microbiology", I am using another book. It's called "Microbiology Ridiculously Easy" and it's helping me a lot. It's fun book, which simplifies everything and makes things easy to memorize. It's about $30, and I would suggest evdy who gonna take it to buy. Good Luck guys.
  14. PA or M.D is sth that I really wanna do :) , but if I can't stay in the U.S after graduation, or if I can't get my green card or "normal" job, then I can't risk. M.D, I can't even afford to go to medical school as an international student. so as I said, I have to begin from nursing and later sth I really wanna do.
  15. Thank you suzanne 4, for your broad knwledge in all areas. This helped me to make my choice. I could not choose between NP and PA, I probably have to become RN and later NP. Thank you again.
