  1. I do understand that it takes so much expenses to train foreign nurses and the whole immigration issues. How come then U.S is not treating international students educated in US differently? US trained foreign nursescould work temporarily with working visa and get experienced and US nursing shortage could be solved? I never get why they do not do this...
  2. Hi, I have completed my nursing program June 2nd, but there is one more class I wanted to take for summer in order to get A.S degree both in nursing and bio. Does NY BON allow me to take NCLEX now without my associates degree, but with completion of the nusring program and all the requirements? thanx.
  3. Dear Lawrence what are those some parts of US? Just share what you heard, so I would take those states out.
  4. Hi guys, I am foreign student studying in Nursing Program in US school. I am graduating anytime soon and planning on trasnfering to 4 year college. I have a choice of 50 states with hundreds of schools each. Can you please help me narrow down my list to states which are more likely to hire foreign nurse on OPT status. I do understand the whole matter with retrogression. I just want to know the states which are more likely to hire me at least for a year now. I am very grateful for your answers. p.s How realistic for me to stay in NY?
  5. Suzanne where can I find the list of those 15 facilities? Are they throughout the US? Thanx a lot for all the help.
  6. Hi guys, I have been reading this forum and I am very thankful to all of you. Need some advice on my particular situation. Thanx. Is there an hospitals in NY who hire RNs who are on OPT? if no, what are neighboring states that are more friendlier to RNs under OPT? After my OPT is expired, I am planning on continuing my education on different major, let's say Biology. But, parallel with studying in Biology, can I still work as RN using my CPT, for 20hrs/week ? Or should my CPT externship should be related to the major I am currently studying, which would be Biology at that time? just any advice is appreciated, on how can F-1 student who is RN(trained in US), who is studying in college under F-1 can work as RN at the same time during this retrogression period? also should I file I-140 after my graduation from Nursing, although I am planning on continuin my education under F-1?
  7. oh I see. I though this april release of H-1b is specifically for nurses, but if it includes all the other professions, makes sense not to be left in hours now H-1b is also out of the list...
  8. why H-1B will be gone within hours when released?
  9. can you or someone else explain why it's not recommended to file I-140 if I plan to file for F-1 in the future again. How about I am going to remain on my F-1 and parallel with that apply for I-140? is it also not recommended? if no, why not?
  10. Lawrence01, thanx for thorough information on the current situation of international students. I just wanted to assure some things that you have mentioned above. H-1B visas , would they be available after april'08? why April, not now immediately? Will it be available, or still gonna be under question as new graduate won't get it, and specialist get it? when they say specialist, do they mean NP, Nurse midwife....? I searched in this forum regarding h-1c visa, but could not find why those 14 hospitals are not the best places to work? is it because of bad working conditions? bad salary? bad location? can u just give me link where it was dicussed I 'll read it up. Thanx again for all the info. It cleared many things.
  11. I am little late, but really wanted to congratulate such an altruistic person as Suzanne4. Happy Birthday !!!!! 12. Kingsborough says that they want minimum GPA of 2.5, but in reality they don't accept with that GPA. They probably will accept with minimum GPA of 3.0 from pre-requisite courses and good NLN results. My friend who had overall GPA of 2.7 and pre-requisite courses(A&P I, English 12, Psychology, Sociology, Science 25) GPA of 3.2 and good NLN results got accepted last semester.
  13. I am taking Microbiology right now, and I'll say that it's one of the most useful classes for Nursing after A&P I, II. Although our class requires a texbook by Black "Microbiology", I am using another book. It's called "Microbiology Ridiculously Easy" and it's helping me a lot. It's fun book, which simplifies everything and makes things easy to memorize. It's about $30, and I would suggest evdy who gonna take it to buy. Good Luck guys.
  14. PA or M.D is sth that I really wanna do :) , but if I can't stay in the U.S after graduation, or if I can't get my green card or "normal" job, then I can't risk. M.D, I can't even afford to go to medical school as an international student. so as I said, I have to begin from nursing and later sth I really wanna do.
  15. Thank you suzanne 4, for your broad knwledge in all areas. This helped me to make my choice. I could not choose between NP and PA, I probably have to become RN and later NP. Thank you again.
  16. Hi guys ! I am an international student and thinking of becoming Physician Assistant. But after graduation, I am hoping to stay in the U.S. Is Green Card also possible to obtain as a PA just like RNs? How about H-1 visas? What do you think of international student becoming a PA. I am posting this question here, because this is the best web-site which talks about the immigration issues of nternational people. Thank you all of you. Desperately waiting for your answers.
  17. malika posted a topic in General Nursing
Hi Guys ! I need detailed advice, why would somebody choose nursing over physician assistant. I honestly am confused. Now I have opportunity to go to either one. What should I do. I only know I am interested in Medicine(in general) and patient care. Just wonder why people don't choose PA, which is so similar to M.D. please clarify it to me.
  18. Hi cherryswitch! congrats on the results. Hope you got in. Can you advice me how to get ready to the English section. I am an international student and don't really know what would be the best way to prepare other than the NLN preparatory book. Not too much in that book about Egnlish section. Thank you
  19. I am from Uzbekistan. Becoming RN in NY
  20. I see now why nobody comes and prepares here as it's not really possible. But how about Kaplan courses? what do u think about them suzanne? I got your point that it would almost be impossible in embassy as he is letting them know he is going to stay here. but, he just wanna try. thank you
  21. Hi suzanne. he is now in Uzbekistan. His English is O.k I can say, but you see, he does not even have sources to prepare for the exam. He wants to prepare here in NY and thus I am searching school for him. It should be official school,to help him get his visa, as it's getting impossible to get any now. I came with the help of I-20, he wants to come by showing that he is accepted to some school and try to get his visa. Can u please help me to find a school that prepares nurses to take NCLEX? Thank you very much for attention u make to every post.
  22. Hi people ! how are you all doing? I need a help very much. My best friend , he got his nursing ceritficate from Uzbekistan, but he did not take the NCLEX yet. it's hard for him to take. So don't anybody of you know any NCLEX preparation programs for international student in US ?can he come to Kaplan, or is it only online prgm? He wants to coem to NY, as I am here. Appreciate any info.

  24. Hi Guys! I am in pri-clinical nursing prgm now in KBCC, CUNY. they told me I gotta wait one more semester to get inot clinical b/c of the few number of seats available in the clinical and b/c it's very competitive. anyways, what I need to know is that if I met all the pre clinical and have very good GPA , is there any school in NY that directly accepts to the clinical? I am talking about A.S. degree, not B.S and I don want 4 year college as I am international student and tuition gonna cost me twice. I'll appreciate your help and any info concerning that. I made research on net, but there can be a school that I missed. Thank you !!!!!
