A&P I: Fall '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

So, I'm in! I've got this and College algebra and I'm DONE with all my pre-reqs and related courses. I dropped this this past Spring, so I know how hard it is. Hopefully I'll have a better instructor this time that actually knows how to teach the class.

ok so i took my first test last thursday on chapters 1-4 the class average was 54.81 i made a 58:crying2: . my instructor said that i still have a chance to get an a in the class .

i took my first test, last friday and our class average was 72. i made an 80 but i got an additional 6 points for extra credit and 5 points learning curve. that was because my instructors other a&p classes did not do so well. however, these next chapters are going to be tough.

a question , does any one out there have two practical exams in lab? :nurse:

hey ! good job with the test. i have three practical exams from lab and 4 quizes also from lab. our prf. focused on labs a lot.

Our test was 50 questions multiple choice, we had some short answer questions as well. We also had to know all about water like dehydration synthesis, hydrolysis etc. Lots of cell information etc. It was pretty tough my instructor does not give any curves.

I have my first lecture exam next wed. I am extremly worried and scared. It is on the first 3 chapters and a lot of info to retain. Not only definitions but he also want us to make a homeostasis chart and just a lot of things. I hope I can do it. Good luck next time. it will get better now that you know what to expect :) What type of test did you have, what was on it, was it multiple choice ?

Oh yeah I just finished all of that we had three quizzes over the past three weeks I aced them all, just had a practical this week, don't think i did so great on that, but we shall see. Good luck to you. By the way the structure you mentioned was just the same way we had to do it.

Is this normal for a lab exam?

Our instructor says on the lab exam next week, we will have to look in the microscope and identify each type of tissue (simple squamous, transitional, stratified cuboidal, areolar..etc) presented, give a written definition and where it is located in the body. There are about 12 of these, and then the rest we do not have slides for- but will have to remember definitions and body locations. This is on top of having to memorize the body parts, all the parts of a cell, directional terms, metric conversions and all the labels for the parts of bone tissue. And this is just the lab exam, it's not even part of the lecture exam.

I am feeling very overwhelmed. The memorizing of stuff I pretty much have down, but this tissue recognition thing has thrown me for a loop. Is this normal or excessive? :crying2:

My first lecture exam is today at 12:30 (Central). PLEASE PRAY FOR ME! :uhoh21:

Our test is 100% essay. How 'bout that?!?! I've studied for it quite a bit--I venture to say much more than my classmates, but that doesn't really matter when there's no curve. Her questions are something like, "Name the 14 subtypes of connective tissue and give locations and examples of each."

O wow, that sounds yuck!! You should do fine if you studied alot.

GOOD LUCK!!!!! :)

Quite frankly, that sucks!!!! I'd be a pile of dead cells! I hate essays!

Let's see, I took my first exam and scored a 139/200 (class average was 125/200). I was one point from making a C on the exam *quite disappointing*

I am still in high spirits that I can make an A in the class-just have to study better. Is anyone else in the boat I am: taking a good 3 other classes (psych, history & govt) along with A&P as I am for example??? If so, how do you handle such a load? I'm feelin a little overwhelmed and am just in need of some encouragement. Thanks!

I have Psych Lifespan and Speech. So not as heavy a load. But it felt overwhelming because i was also studying for the nursing enterance exam.

There was only one question I could not answer (had to give an example of structural protein and could not for the life of me remember keratin and collagen), but it was only worth 1 point. The test was nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. I'll find out my score tomorrow! Thanks so much for your support!

I use the application of logic in helping me remember the sequence: groups of chemicals make up organelles; groups of organelles make up a cell (the smallest unit of life); groups of cells make tissues; groups of tissue make organs, groups of organs make organ systems; organ systems make up a functional living organism (sometimes)

Anyone know of a good way to memorize/learn the 6 structural Levels??

(Chemical, Cell, Tissue, Organ, Organ System & Organism)

Maybe it's just wishful thinking that there could be some cute way to memorise this!
