Yes. You asked why Biden acted so decently to a man he called a Nazi, but also Trump has called him the Head of the Biden Crime Family, Sleepy Joe Biden, claimed he destroyed the economy, made stuff up and turned America into the world's garbage dump.
It was an ugly campaign on both sides and I was glad Trump accepted the meeting and was gracious and Presidential about it all. Both sides have great unsustainable divisions but seeing them together was a good thing on the road to moving on even though the talk of toning it down and bringing the country together is just talk at this point.
These picks seem to have some qualifications that make sense.
I can appreciate how they admit the healthcare system and the health of the nation is in really poor shape and will be curious to see their plans. The one that says America has lost trust in the CDC neglected to say it was his President and Party that caused that (in my opinion) but only blamed Biden. Biden I think had to deal with the post-covid distrust and I've read studies that 25% still distrust the CDC with Democrats trusting them more.
It will be interesting to see if the one will promote a new food pyramid. Food advocates have long fought with big ag over the food pyramid.
The surgeon general pick believes in vaccines. Wonder if she'll back pedal on that.
QuoteIn recent days, Trump has tapped nearly a half-dozen Project 2025 authors and contributors, including Brendan Carr, who Trump picked this week to lead the FCC; former Rep. Pete Hoekstra, who got the nod for ambassador to Canada; and John Ratcliffe, who was tapped for director of the CIA. One of Trump's first selections — Tom Homan as "border czar" — was also a Project 2025 contributor.

QuotePatel came to national attention as a congressional aide investigating the feds who were probing Russian interference in the 2016 election, before he pivoted into roles in Trump's National Security Council and Pentagon. He's a regular on right-wing podcasts, where he has issued threats to prosecute political adversaries. Patel also pledged to shutter the FBI headquarters "on day one" and to disperse employees there across the country.
He needs confirmation from the Senate but this this Trump's nominee for FBI director. Not surprising.

Back in November Fox News had the headline about the first female White House Chief of Staff in the upcoming administration. Should they be mocked for mentioning that she's a female? Is she a DEI hire or really qualified over men? Or if you're white heterosexual female it's not a DEI hire?
Asking for a friend.

I thought Trump is a misogynist?
Obviously, it can't be a DEI hire.
When a entity such as the LAFD has a written DEI strategy, they obviously make DEI hires. IDK that Trump has any such policies.
You mentioned something like that LAFD is best trained in the world (don't know how you determined that). Are they really? Or are they best working within the DEI parameters they've set?
When it takes years for a white man after applying for his turn to take a applicant test vs a week for a black woman, it's a worthy question. How many qualified applicants to they lose in that process?

I looked at your link article from the Federalist on another thread, criticizing the DEI policies of the LAFD. Within it is a link to the LAFD strategic plan, that the author says has 4 full pages on DEI. 2 of those pages are photographs , and the other two list strategies for recruitment and training. No where in the plan is there anything about limiting hires to diverse populations. There are suggestions like strengthening the cadet program, reaching out to magnet schools, alternative schedules. But nothing about prioritizing a black woman hire before a white man.
Firefighters do more than point hoses at flames. They are involved with reponding to rescue situations and providing aid to critically ill people. I think there is value in a responder being able to assure someone in their native language, provide cultural competent care, and perhaps more quickly calm the injured. Surely you as a nurse, can recognize how useful it is to have staff comfort those who struggle to communicate and cooperate due to language/cultural barriers, not to mention tend to sexual assault victims.

He is a misogynist which is why this could be a DEI hire. But no, Trump wouldn't dare have a DEI hire policy. His cabinet will only have three people of color. But he has appointed four hispanics and a gay man, as well as the first female Chief of Staff, but because it's him it's not DEI.

Perhaps where we again differ is that I don't mind DEI policy. I just completed our annual training at work and they included a section on DEI. I do understand the "how many qualified white men were passed over to include this black women" argument. The flip side is "how many qualified black people and women have been passed over for generations, or weren't even given the opportunity to get the education that would make them qualified". meh...another discussion.
My claim about them being highly trained was a bit of a presumption because they have a long history and policy of battling wildfires, and the elite group of firefighters known as the "Hotshots" are stationed there and originated from there.
Musk's claims that DEI kills people is just ridiculous. Also Trump doing his usual making things up about "Newscum" not signing some non-existent "water restoration declaration" is ridiculous as well. Looks like I'm in for another four years of frustration of "he's so easily fact checked, but why aren't Republicans in power speaking up and calling him out on his lies?" But I do wish him and us success the next four years. I suppose that's what matters to Republicans "yeah he lies and is a felon but he gets things done". Sigh........

That strategic plan is a summary. I've attached a document related to the LAFD Racial Equity Action Plan implemented a few years ago.
No one said they're "limiting hiring to diverse populations". I'm nit even sure what that means?
I know what firefighters and paramedics do. I'm a ED nurse and receive patients from them everyday. And while it might be nice to have a caregiver that matches their culture, it's usually not possible and in the big picture not that important.
I've worked in three pediatric hospitals relatively recently. Simply because of the healthcare professional demographics of the areas, nurse and tech staff was predominantly white (up to 100% on any one day and unit) while serving very diverse patient populations.
Two of the hospitals are top ten in the US according to US News and World report.
A diverse staff is wonderful, but not at the expense of relaxing qualifications.

His cabinet will be composed of the people he finds best for the position. Void of gender/sex/race/creed/religion/nationality.
The diversity of people he appointed is related to their skill. Because of this, the gay man, Hispanics and women he hired were hired for their qualifications. Not their identity. Demonstrating he is not discrimatory against minority. You can do the job? You're hired. You can't, your fired. Simple.

I've hoped all through his first term that he'd act more presidential. And often cringed at the way he acted on the campaign trail.
The wsy he has acted since the election and his meeting with Biden gives me hope.
We shall see.
Gaetz is a terrible choice on many levels, and does not make any sense to me.
