WGU Pre-licensing BSN for 2015

Nursing Students Western Governors

Published

Hey everyone,

I am looking at possible attending WGUs Prelicensing.

I have been between 2 schools but it is looking more positive with than the other school. I have to retake my A&P 2 due to the Lack of quality instructors. The Professor we had was absolutely horrible and many of us in the class need to retake it due to low grades. I will have to wait til Spring and take it at a community college instead of where I took the last one. I am wondering how many other are planning to attend in 2015.

Other than that I will have all I need to Apply. I am emailing my enrollment counselor and find out the upcoming dates that are out so far in 2015.

I am gearing more towards WGU and having a group to work together and keep eachother motivated would be great. Let me know.

Thanks

Shonda

I'm actually in a different state, but the program is the same besides the hospitals. Boot camp! It does feel like ages ago, I remember being so nervous but don't be! They want you to succeed and I remember them saying no one has ever failed boot camp and I am certain it is still the same 'till this day. Try to get to know the people in your cohort and try to get at least 1 persons number. I became good friends with 2 of the people in my cohort and it is so nice being able to talk about the program and vent frustrations and talk about success all at the same time.

If you struggle in your first clinical classes, don't be alarmed! I really sturggled during my first clinical class (CASAL I) and my first of of clinical was overwhelming but it does get better. Try not to fall behind during that second semester because you have 2 big classes right off the bat (CASAL I/Fundamentals and Health Assessment). You'll have days where you're frustrated/overwhelmed, but that's with any nursing program. When that happens I contact my student mentor and I back in the game. Having a great student mentor is so crucial.

Thanks for your responses, I live in Glendale CA, and have been working with my counselor since June 16'. I didn't get into September cohort. My TEAS 76, its not the best but its still proficient, 3.00 Pre req. Epidemiologists for LAC Health Dept. for 9 years, MPH degree, two recommendations from nursing director at LAC, and Epidemiology Director. I wonder if they care about those things because nobody ever talks about that, its only TEAS and pre reqs, I really hope they actually consider other things. My counselor is so positive and encouraging and told me to raise my GPA and so I raised it now to 3.33, she recommended straighterline. So now I'm waiting to get into FEB 17 COHORT, but will not know until December. I know its competitive, but I would hope that they consider personal statement, recommendation and job as well. She said that my new GPA will definitely give me a better chance of getting in. But if it doesn't I'll try to complete my other science class labs and try to get a As then I'll have a 4.00, and if that doesn't work I'll retake TEAS. I just want to know if based on counselor working with me, and actually encouraging me, and my background, if I have a shot at getting in.

Thanks for the response, I have been working with a counselor to try to get in the So Cal cohort since July 16', I didn't get in to 2 cohorts, and now I raised my GPA from a 3.00 to a 3.33 and 76 TEAS. She still is so encouraging and nice, but hope to get in. So you're saying if she didn't think I could get in then she wouldn't have even move forward with the constant checking in, and appointments? That sounds encouraging if that's true. Hope you got in too. I'm hoping to get in soon.

Has anyone applied for the February 2017 cohort? I am anxiously waiting to hear back if I have been accepted or not. I know that the CA director is actively reviewing files...but I just am sooooo nervous. Anybody that is in the program-how far in advance did you know your acceptance?

Hi Missfuture--best of luck with your application! I am in the Sept cohort and I think we found out in July or so... it's all a blur at this point, lol. ;)

Missfuture. I started in May- I think I received notification some time in late march? It was my second time applying. I didn't get in the first time.

Does the science pre-requisite courses expire after so many years? I took mine 7 years ago, and like to know if they accept it.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Vincent, they will evaluate all of your courses on an individual basis. They accepted some of mine that were older than 5 years but didn't accept others. Inquire with your admissions mentor.

Centercourt, I'm going to pm you with a few questions about our upcoming bootcamp later this week. Thanks! :)

Specializes in CNA, LVN, RN.

So does use ATI like most of the other nursing schools?

I am new to this webpage. How do we pm others?

Yes, to pass a clinical class you need to pass the ATI exam.
