WGU Pre-licensing BSN for 2015

Published

Hey everyone,

I am looking at possible attending WGUs Prelicensing.

I have been between 2 schools but it is looking more positive with WGU than the other school. I have to retake my A&P 2 due to the Lack of quality instructors. The Professor we had was absolutely horrible and many of us in the class need to retake it due to low grades. I will have to wait til Spring and take it at a community college instead of where I took the last one. I am wondering how many other are planning to attend in 2015.

Other than that I will have all I need to Apply. I am emailing my enrollment counselor and find out the upcoming dates that are out so far in 2015.

I am gearing more towards WGU and having a group to work together and keep eachother motivated would be great. Let me know.

Thanks

Shonda

Are you still willing to answer questions about the prelicensure program?

Funny name "meanmaryjean", does this mean anything? I am shy to try nursing school again but read something about WGU being respectful to students, is this true?

Yes, they are much better (the WGU instructors anyway) than what I saw when I was in a traditional program. One of the lab instructors did not impress me as much, but really only one and not going to judge the whole program off of one instructor on a power trip.

Hello, I have a few questions. First, I would like to know which course you suggest I take first between APII and Microbiology (through Straighterline). I also would like to take the TEAS just to see where I am do you suggest that at all or should I wait until after taking those courses to take the TEAS. Secondly, do you know how long the TEAS will last before I can't use the score any longer. And finally I was told there is something in the works with Vincennes has it come available yet. I'm in Southern IN. I've been attempting to get into the program for almost 3 years. Due to me having to pay for the prereqs out of pocket its been a hardship. I've always wanted to be a nurse, currently I am a CMA (20 yrs). I'm 43 this year, time is moving on but my circumstances don't allow me to do a whole lot so it's one class every few months. I have yet to take a 1 humanities, 1 history, APII and Micro. Thank you in advance for your advice. Hopefully things will move quickly for me and I can begin the fall cohort.

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had applied for October Cohort with WGU?

Hello Everyone,

Has anyone applied for the October Cohort for WGN in California? I have not seen any post.

Are you still with WGU? I hope to get picked this spring 2017.

Hi Lakegirl. I am now in this program (was chosen for the Sept 2016 CA cohort.) We are about 3 months in and I'm almost done with my preclinical courses. I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have as you apply for spring. I've been very happy with the program so far. Best of luck!

Oh? that's great. Congratulations! What experience did you have? I was kind of dragging my feet as they keep saying they "might have a co-hort" here in Texas and then they picked everyone but I had not completed all the forms..Anyway, are u happy with your mentor, is it the same person you had in the beginning? Did your class form a Facebook page? I am so happy to hear from you. Oh and any advice for the TEAS Anything else I should do to prepare? Thank you.

I am less than a year away from finishing! It has gone by so fast and I have learned so much!

I am going to butt in and answer some of lake girl questions from my experience:

What experience did you have?

No prior healthcare experience. Some people in the cohort did not have any health care experience at all also. But others were CNA's/Techs.

Are you happy with your mentor, is it the same person you had in the beginning?

Yes, I am VERY VERY happy with my course mentor. She really has been one of the reasons I have gotten this far in the program. She keeps me motivated, engaged, and I look forward to speaking with her. I have been with her right from the start.

Did your class form a Facebook page?

Yes.

Oh and any advice for the TEAS

My only study material was the Official Teas book from ATI and Khan Academy. It is a great program and I am very thankful that it exist because I would not be able to work full-time otherwise. Also, if you can transfer in biochemistry and statistics that would save you some frustration. I heard some students not being the biggest fans of those courses.

Hi Lakegirl--

I have really enjoyed the program so far. I have had the same mentor and she will be with me for the duration. EVERY SINGLE person i've had contact with at WGU has been so incredibly nice and helpful. I'm continuously amazed with that. Each course has a course mentor that you can reach out to at any time. We did form a FB page, which is very helpful. As for the TEAS, I only purchased the official TEAS study guide and I watched some math videos on YouTube with Keshwani Prep. He uses the same booklet and goes thru the material question by question. Incredibly helpful.

You will have a TON of support once in the program. Leading up to it and application, the application advisor I worked with was also incredible. She was so helpful with telling me where I stood, what needed to be accomplished and when, etc. Have you talked to a specific person at WGU for admissions yet? I really can't talk more highly of the program. It's a great fit for me and my family.

Centercourt, Just saw your post. Glad to hear you're still happy with the program! Where is your cohort's clinicals located? I'm part of CA 36 and I think ours will be at Huntington Memorial (although I know you can rotate between them.)

We're headed to bootcamp the first week of December. I bet that feels like ages ago for you by now. ;) I'm looking forward to it!
