Just because you are in jeopardy of getting a fine for truancy for 9 unexcused absences, do not come and expose others to your cooties.

Sent Little Darling home with fever Tuesday. This meant LD got 2 excused absences since we excuse the next day if the nurse see they are running a fever. He comes back this morning and checks into class, then asks to see the nurse. Comes into my office telling me he was running a fever of 101.2 when he woke up this morning and GM gave him medication. This was after me telling both of the them fever free policy and to go to the dr if he needed to be out after WED. At this time, he was not running a fever. Called GM anyway and she was across the street at Wal-mart and came to pu student. Took his temp and it was 100.0. So, 2 days nurse excused.

When I encouraged GM to take LD to dr, she started going on about the pollen and such. Allergies don't make you run fever for 3 days straight. So because of his allergies, he may have a sinus infection. Really, just take him to the dr. :banghead:

i have discussed with my admins about not excusing the absences if the student knowingly comes in sick. This way it prevents the student from coming in just to get that extended pass. Of course, you can only go by what you are being told and if i had a nickle for everytime the student that's been in the bathroom with diarrhea since walking through the door was "fine this morning" i'd be retired already.

I gotten 2 kids like that today that had fevers but had to go to school because of absents but I told the parent that they are not well enough to be here and will infect the rest of the students, they must go home.

If I could my parents to keep kids home for actual illness, I'd be a happy nurse. The kids can miss days, sometimes weeks, at a time for vacations multiple times per year, but call home for a fever that the kid said started before school and the parents always say "well, I didn't want him/her to miss a day"

I just fielded a call from a mom who wanted me to know that her daughter has a fever ranging from 101-103 and it is not coming down with meds, but she doesn't want to take her to the doctor because it's probably viral. Sure, maybe it is. Or maybe you are calling me to convince me your kid is out today sick because you just got your 9-days-absent letter? Hmmmmm??:yes:

Our unexcused absence letters go out today, I'm sure everyone will be calling for every little thing come Monday!

We only allow one vacation per year, any more is unexcused. Our public system demands proof of educational value or it is unexcused.

Our policy is the same, but no one listens. They won't tell us that they are on vacation, they just write a "sick note" and we're told to make it "excused"

YES! I had one little darling that kept coming in with a stomachache, after the third time I called home and told mom it was up to her. That LD didn't have a fever/v/d so I felt they were okay to stay. BUT if she picked LD up she would need to take the student to the doctor or use a parent note (we allow 7) for it to be excused.

"Well, I'm really trying to save those for a trip to Georgia later this Spring, can't you send them home so it will be excused?"

Nope. Sorry lady, that's your problem. We get a Spring Break for a reason. Really people? Tell your kid to suck it up buttercup.

On the other side of the spectrum, I gotten more kids than usual this week, all for headaches and I'm assuming it's allergies, but lots of parents pick them up and they are fine, and I get yelled at for wasting their time and it's like, "I gave you a choice to pick them up or not, and you picked this one, so why blame me?"

Then I had this other child, did NOT have a fever, 98.6, came twice for headache. I called mother, she said okay. She never said she'll pick him up or anything. I come back from lunch and she's there and she said she got him earlier today and she took him to the doctor and he had a fever and how could I not see that when I checked him? It's like, temperature changes... he was okay earlier today and I told you he just had a headache, but thankfully you picked him up and he had one a the doctor's instead of here. She told me to be more vigilant and not be so dumb. I apologized for my oversight and I'll make sure to double check for now on.
