Just had a girl with 102 temp crying because she wanted to stay in school. She has midterm review today and a basketball game tomorrow.

She was in earlier, afebrile, now with shaking chills. I'm suspecting flu.

A nice, sweet involved kid who never comes in. Parents are a pleasure.

Put your GOOD stories and Good kids right here.

My birthday was this week and my son brought(kinder) brought me a drawing from one of his classmates. It's a picture of a cake and it says "Happy Burd Day Mom" I thanked the kiddo at lunch and asked why he wrote "mom" and he said "Because I didn't know how to spell Nurse"

I had to share this.

Today is V-Day, and like always, I don't get gifts from anyone. I had these 4 kids, mostly 1st graders, who slipped on the floor because the gym room is close to their classrooms, and kids have been tracking mud and water all over the place. They all came to me at the same time, and I handled it as much as I could, by giving them ice packs, letting them read some books and informing their parents. Everything went well, parents were okay and the kids were okay after talking to their parents. I was about to take them back to class, when one of them who always liked me because last year he was trying new ADHD medication and wasn't doing super well at first, but I gave him patience and love, said to everyone, "Before we leave guys, we have to tell Ms. Amethya a Happy Valentine's day!" They all gave me the biggest group hug in the world and said they loved me. Then when I left them to class, they said they will bring me their left over candy for me.

Sweetest kids ever and made my day so much brighter.

Yesterday was my birthday and like any other holiday, I'm not remembered and I'm okay with it. The whole day friends sent me texts and facebook posts telling me Happy Birthday. I went to a classroom of 1st graders to check a student out and one kid said, "Ms. Amethya, is it your birthday today?" I just said, casually, "Yes, it is." Then before I knew it, I was bombarded with Happy Birthdays and hugs from the kids and telling me they love me. I felt the love yesterday.

We have a large population of students who practice Judaism, and a few days ago I was talking with a 3rd grader about Hamantash (little pastry triangles of deliciousness) and how I only have seen the fruit ones before.

Today she brought me two chocolate ones she made herself.

It made my friday :)

This is more of a good parent story.

Little one comes in with big goose egg from falling on the concrete while playing soccer. No tears, total tough stuff which is a big deal because he usually isn't. I check him out, get the ice and after a bit send him back.

I call dad to give him a heads up, and dad says in what sounds like a serious tone:

"I only have one question...was the fall hard enough to knock some sense into him."

Second time today I've burst out laughing in my office.

I've talked about this student before on here.

He's one of my SS kids with a seizure disorder and he loves me. Like cheers for me whenever he sees me, would be in charge of the Nurse Wine fanclub kind of love. He is having a lot of breakthrough seizures lately, and my SS teachers have been dropping like flies with a stomach bug, so I went down to their room and brought him back and forth to my office so a para wouldn't have to.

He held my hand (he's a runner if you dont), and with the other waved at everyone who passed and yelled "look! look!" and pointed at me with the most excitement I've ever seen out of a little one. And he did perfect for our whole assessment.

I joked with the teacher that I want to do this once a week to boost my self esteem. He made me feel like a rockstar :)

I need to know where you got this flip chart!

I have a flip chart "Daily Mood" that has super cute moods like "Wonky" "Scattered" "Hunky-Dory" "Spent."

One of our Asperger's kid has taken it upon himself to change my moods when he sees I am away from my desk. Today I was in my office when he had his chance to change it. He said casually, "I wonder who has been changing your moods?" Playing along I said I have no idea. He said "I will do a full investigation and tell you who did it at the end of the year"

I am waiting with baited breath (after a mint of course!).

I need this flip chart!!!!

Today is our big health video day. The PE teachers and counselors offered to handle it all without me (it's been a chaotic week in my office/building).

One of my TD1 diabetics walks into my office in a panicked state.

"What will we do if I need to change my tampon AND I feel like I have low blood sugar at the same time?! Which is worse Toxic Shock or low blood sugar?!"

It took everything I had not to laugh. I calmed her down and we talked it out. Before leaving she looks at me and says "Being a girl is ROUGH"

I admire her thinking ahead and paying attention. :)

College day today and I am wearing a shirt that says "Michigan" in Hebrew.

Kid whom I've interacted with, not always pleasantly, over four years comes in to show me his skateboard injury, which I make him clean and cover because school is yucky. On the way out he says "Does your shirt say Bad-a** nurse?" Nope, it says Michigan. "Well, it should say bad-a** nurse!"

So that's what I'm going to tell people when they ask....

Really tough day yesterday for one of our teachers. I overheard one of the quieter kids ask her as he was leaving "Are you okay? I will be worried about you all night unless you tell me you're okay." 7th grade boys can surprise you sometimes

6th and 7th grade boys can be the sweetest kids!
