Had a kid bring his wet, bloody tooth and plop it right on my desk.

C'mon now!

Or the kid that did running knee slide into my office.

C'mon now!

The ones old enough to cover their mouths but choose to cough right in your face instead.

All together: C'mon now!!

Some things just make me shake my head.

Parent of two new KN (started last week) came in this morning angry because his kids have been given pears (they are allergic) two days in a row. "what do I have TO DO to make sure they aren't given pears?!"

I check my files--no medical records. In my mailbox are their emergency cards he filled out yesterday afternoon, after I left for the day. Only one of them mentions a pear allergy.

Um, telling someone about the allergy would be a good way to help avoid the allergen? Just an idea.

... and possibly teaching your kids not to eat pears? They are 5 years old, this is possible. Accountability people, it may be old, but it has kept us, as a society, alive for generations.

Written on the nurse's pass

"Student has been coughing all week, can you tell the parents that they have to pick him up NOW and keep him home tomorrow?"

Student didn't cough once in my office, throat not red, BUT has tons of behaviors and was climbing the walls here

AS IF. When did a kid ever get sent home and kept home the next day just for coughing? Although for what it's worth, I have heard that the very student the teacher really needs a break from is NEVER absent. Teacher was just trying to get a breather.

Little Darling comes in today with her right arm in a bandage. States she burned herself with hot ramen noodles last night and went to the ER. Shows me the ER release with no restrictions and a note from GM that said she would need help today in class. Returned the note and said to show it to her teachers. We talked about her pain medication and when she could take more (OTC-IBU). She expresses concern about computer class and using the mouse. Informed her she could use her left hand and that it would be awkward, but could be done. Then she asked if her boyfriend could carry her bags in between classes (or some one in that class, after I gave her "the look"). I said, "no, because you can carry it with your left arm."

Please use your problem solving skills....Oh, right, you don't have many cause everyone has always "fixed it for you."

Kid comes in because he bite his cheek and there was a "bit of flesh hanging off" that he didn't like. (PS, no I didn't see this mysterious flesh.) Was actually very much in disbelief that I couldn't clip it and wouldn't let him use my dirty scissors to do it himself! But, have some mouthwash.

C'MON, MAN!

High school girl comes in to my office.

Her: "Can I get some ice?"

Me: "What for?"

Her: "My wrist hurts."

Me: "Did you injure it?"

Her: "Weeelllll....not really. It just hurts when I do this." Bends her wrist into full flexion.

Me: "So you didn't injure it or fall on it? It just hurts when you bend it?"

Her: "Yeah."

Me: "Well, don't bend it like that then."

Her: "But it pops sometimes!!"

Me: "If it hurts, don't do it."

Her: "But can I get some ice though?"

Me: "Nope, I only give ice out for injuries. Stop bending your wrist like that."

Well - you just described a good 1/3 of my daily visits

A teacher just sent a student to the nurse because....hold on to your seats.....his earlobe was RED (slighly at best). I asked him if it hurts: No. I felt it and said does it hurt when I touch it: No. I asked him if he asked to come see me: No. "My teacher told me to come down here". C'MON NOW!!

had a student come down so he could have a soft cloth to clean his glasses. This isn't lens crafters. The best I have is the tissues which all the classrooms have, the paper towels, which are available at the classroom sinks or oh, wait, maybe there is a soft cloth riiiight on the end of your shirt tail... problem solving 101 :cautious:

The nurse before me was lens crafters, there is a basket of cheaters for if the teachers forget theirs, an eye glass repair kit and a handful of the soft glassess cleaning cloths. I see kids all the time for dirty glasses.
