Roll Call--Fall '05!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Who's all starting out this fall?

I need some friends! :rotfl:

I'm starting my ADN program this fall, It takes 4 semesters--last graduating class, 70 people were accepted, 30 made it to the end, and ALL 30 passed their NCLEX...I hope the pass rate is the same when I take my NCLEX!!! oh, and I live in Tennessee.

Hi everyone

I just got my acceptance letter today!! Actually I had to go to the post office and ask if they had a certified letter for me. I've been waiting all week b/c a lot of people in my pharm class had already gotten their letters. Well to make a long story short, the mailman had apparently came on wed to deliver it, but he didn't even leave a card to notify me that I had a certified letter waiting for me! I was a little annoyed with that, but I guess all that matters is I GOT IN!!!

I am so excited, I finished all my prereqs too, last fall. So I can focus solely on Nursing classes.

Good Luck to everyone.

Michele

Oh, by the way its a 5 semester program at OCC in MI.

Congratulations! It must have been annoying that the post man didn't even leave a card saying that the letter would be at the post office! Oh well, like you said, what matters is that you got in.

I know what you are talking about. Iwas waiting for my letter and we went 2 days without getting any mail. That never happens. I was so freaked out. I thought great......fine time for the mail to mess up. But it came the next day and I was sooooo happy. CONGRATS on everyone's letters! :smiley_aa

Hi Everybody!! I'm starting my 2-year nursing program at Valencia Community College in Orlando on August 29. I am soooo very excited, but nervous at the same time... :uhoh21:

Nursegirl,

Thank you so much for the great words of wisdom. I welcome any feedback from senior students. Question -- did you ever "gag" during your clinicals??? I'm a bit nervous about that - I have a very quick "gag reflex". I don't have a problem with seeing dead people, blood or such, but smells can get to me. I assume I'll get use to it.......

CONGRATS to all you new nursing students. As a 2nd year nursing student who will graduate in May 06 from an ADN program I feel compelled to pass on my wisdom! Ha

1. Have fun and enjoy the experience.

2. Remember that there are 40 or more other women(along with a few men) who are going thru it to. Just remember though what happens when you get that many women in the same room together and you spend a lot of time together. (watch out for the stinpy ones..lol)

(had to share that one because in my class we have a lot of older women acting like they are still in high school!)

3. USE YOUR RESOURCES!- Most of the instructors that I have had are teaching for a reason..Because they love sharing their knowlege of nursing with the new kids on the block. Never be afraid to ask an instructor to clarify or explain something your having a hard time understanding..This is your future!!

4. Dont go spending an outrageous amount of money on a stethescope for nursing school. I bought a Sprague cost me $16 dollars and has not failed me! Save your money and when you graduate Splurge on an expensive one as a graduation present. (plus they are so easy to lose if you have to buy another one your going to be upset if you spent a lot of money on it.

5. In clinicals You an inevitably going to run into Nurses in your clinical settings who hate students and will try to bring you down! Do not let them.. These are usually the nurses that are a) either close to retirement and just going thru the motions til they can retire or b) nurses who actually dont care(they are scarier to me for that reason only!!)

6. Even though you are only a student. NEVER EVER be afraid to stick up for your patient. You may be a student but you may find that you are their only voice when no one else will listen. Go to your Clinical instructor and present the case chances are she will be more than likely to back you up!!

7.when performing a procedure for the first time its okay to be nervous. its okay to ask your instructor to be in there with you.

8. If your in an ADN program. You are probably going to be doing more ADL's during Clinicals than anything else. ADL= Activities of daily living. Bed baths, showers, morning care, emptying foley's. putting in foley's, NG tubes, Oral meds, bedpans, cleaning patients that have soiled themselves. Dont be discouraged. Watch everything the nurse does and use it as a learning experience and knowledge to take with you for future semesters!

This is just some of my knowledge AM NOT trying to scare anyone! These are just some of the things I wish someone had warned me about before I started nursing school!

Good luck to you all. Your going to love it!
