Roll Call--Fall '05!

Published

Who's all starting out this fall?

I need some friends! :rotfl:

I'm starting my ADN program this fall, It takes 4 semesters--last graduating class, 70 people were accepted, 30 made it to the end, and ALL 30 passed their NCLEX...I hope the pass rate is the same when I take my NCLEX!!! oh, and I live in Tennessee.

I am Kent. I will be starting Fall '05 semester at UW-oshkosh. I can't wait until I start. I will be going for my BSN. It will be 5 semester. I am done with all my pre-reqs. For some strange reason don't feel prepared. Hopefully everything goes well.

I bet we will be hearing a lot from each other.

I hope all of you guys have a relaxing summer before nursing school. :)

I am starting my 1st semester of clinical (ADN Program) this fall(05) at Delaware Techinical & Community College . I have been there for the past few years taking all of the prereqs. I am soooo excited !!! I was actually one of the lucky students b/c I only had to wait one semester before I got in. Some students have to wait a year or two to get into clinical. They accept you depending on your grades in a few prereqs and your score on the NLN. I am very anal about my grades and I keep trying to remind myself that I can't stress over them once I'm in clinical. As other students have told me "C means Degree!!" :) .

Congrats, to everyone starting this Fall!!!

I think we should post a thread once a month for everyone to post how they are doing. Just an idea  !!

Jen

I just got my letter this week! I start in August and I am so excited!

CONGRATS TO EVERYONE! :balloons: :balloons:

:behindpc:

Class starts August 22 for my five year BSN! in missions nursing at Reformed Bible College/Calvin College. Zoiks, has it really been 13 years since high school? I'm gonna be sick... :barf02:

CONGRATS to all you new nursing students. As a 2nd year nursing student who will graduate in May 06 from an ADN program I feel compelled to pass on my wisdom! Ha

1. Have fun and enjoy the experience.

2. Remember that there are 40 or more other women(along with a few men) who are going thru it to. Just remember though what happens when you get that many women in the same room together and you spend a lot of time together. (watch out for the stinpy ones..lol)

(had to share that one because in my class we have a lot of older women acting like they are still in high school!)

3. USE YOUR RESOURCES!- Most of the instructors that I have had are teaching for a reason..Because they love sharing their knowlege of nursing with the new kids on the block. Never be afraid to ask an instructor to clarify or explain something your having a hard time understanding..This is your future!!

4. Dont go spending an outrageous amount of money on a stethescope for nursing school. I bought a Sprague cost me $16 dollars and has not failed me! Save your money and when you graduate Splurge on an expensive one as a graduation present. (plus they are so easy to lose if you have to buy another one your going to be upset if you spent a lot of money on it.

5. In clinicals You an inevitably going to run into Nurses in your clinical settings who hate students and will try to bring you down! Do not let them.. These are usually the nurses that are a) either close to retirement and just going thru the motions til they can retire or b) nurses who actually dont care(they are scarier to me for that reason only!!)

6. Even though you are only a student. NEVER EVER be afraid to stick up for your patient. You may be a student but you may find that you are their only voice when no one else will listen. Go to your Clinical instructor and present the case chances are she will be more than likely to back you up!!

7.when performing a procedure for the first time its okay to be nervous. its okay to ask your instructor to be in there with you.

8. If your in an ADN program. You are probably going to be doing more ADL's during Clinicals than anything else. ADL= Activities of daily living. Bed baths, showers, morning care, emptying foley's. putting in foley's, NG tubes, Oral meds, bedpans, cleaning patients that have soiled themselves. Dont be discouraged. Watch everything the nurse does and use it as a learning experience and knowledge to take with you for future semesters!

This is just some of my knowledge AM NOT trying to scare anyone! These are just some of the things I wish someone had warned me about before I started nursing school!

Good luck to you all. Your going to love it!

I start my ADN program this fall too. I'll graduate in May 2007!

Hey,

I am due to start an ADN program in Sept 05 too!! I am stressing already as to HOW in the world I am going to do it on top of the 3 kids (ages 11, 6 & 3), working from home, and EVERYTHING else around here, lol, lol, but I guess there are a lot of us in the same CRAZY boat!!!

Let's all take a DEEP breath, only the Lord knows what we are in for!!

Kim

Wow we have a lot in common - I start in August but I also have three kids (11, 6, & almost 3!), work from home, etc!

I am looking forward to sharing the next two crazy years with all of you :balloons: Congrats all :)

Hello all!

I am still doing prereqs, hope to start clinicals in Fall'06 at an ADN pgm. I have a BA, but since I'm 31, all my classes are 'too old', I have to take Micro, Anat & Phys 2, Develop. Psych and Micro...I have 2 little ones, 7 and 2 and I too wonder how will I do this!?!?!? I work very part-time now, and am considering getting my refersher CNA ( I did so the first time in '01, and then decided I wanted one more baby, lol!) so I can have some clinical exp before I start. Anyone else considering working part-time thru school? I already have too many loans from undergrad, don't want to go that route again :) Good luck to everyone!!!

I'll be starting a BSN program at the University of South Florida in Tampa...I can't wait! Way back when I first got out of High School I was accepted into a nursing program, but at 18, I just wasn't ready...Fast forward to the present (40 y/o) I'm raring to go. I feel like I'm coming full circle!

I have a 5y/o and 2y/o, plus, I work 3 days out of the week. I will more than likely cut back to 2 days a week when I start clinical this fall but I still have to work a little to help husband pay bills. Sometimes I wonder if I will ever get sleep!! :rotfl:

Jen

Hi everyone

I just got my acceptance letter today!! Actually I had to go to the post office and ask if they had a certified letter for me. I've been waiting all week b/c a lot of people in my pharm class had already gotten their letters. Well to make a long story short, the mailman had apparently came on wed to deliver it, but he didn't even leave a card to notify me that I had a certified letter waiting for me! I was a little annoyed with that, but I guess all that matters is I GOT IN!!!

I am so excited, I finished all my prereqs too, last fall. So I can focus solely on Nursing classes.

Good Luck to everyone.

Michele

Oh, by the way its a 5 semester program at OCC in MI.
