Professors who grade based on 'looks'

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I know a few students have claimed that they had professors who graded students based on looks--meaning if you're a young pretty girl than you get an "A" with very little effort. Have you ever witnessed anything like this? If so, do you report the Professor to the dean?

When I earned an A in micro, one of the other students, who had earned a C, accused the instructor of this, which I found laughable since I am neither "young", nor "pretty", and I worked my butt off for that A. It was just sour grapes, which you may see a lot of in NS.

I know of two women who were talking about how they were going to flirt with one of their professors to get good grades. I personally know the professor they were talking about. I found the plan quite amusing, considering the professor is homosexual.

Needless to say, they didn't get the grades they were hoping for!

I just finished A & P I in a condensed summer course. We had several girls in the class who let their boobs hang out, wearing no underwear under short skirts, and other gross displays. They also blatently cheated on every test, even leaving the classroom in the middle of tests only to return to finish, talking during tests, texting each other, constantly talking during class and constant disruptions. The professor thought they were adorable with all of their obnoxious behavior. The teacher let all this go on thru the whole semester. I approached the teacher during one test and pointed out their cheating. He told me he knew they were cheating and he would do something about it. Well, he didn't, he only managed to humiliate me during the next class calling me a tattler. In the end, I got an A that I worked my but off for, but the pretty cheaters, they also got A's. Grrrr! However, the only thing that maintains my sanity, they are never going to make it in nursing school. I give them a week. Oh, and our professor, he was 85!! :banghead:

I've heard of this in "regular" classes but never seen it, personally--I think it's far less common than people think. Good luck to anyone who thinks it will work in nursing school, however. The vast majority of the instructors are women, and their goal is to turn out competent nurses, not pretty ones. I've seen a few people who are used to getting by on looks crash and burn once they hit nursing classes.

my husband has had many nursing students in his classes down through the years and not a single one has received a higher grade because of what she wore or didn't wear. one girl came in once wearing no bra or underpants, sat and slithered out of her t-i-g-h-t mini skirt, then sat there in just a tube top and flip flops. security came and escorted her out. he comes home from time to time laughing and shaking his head, saying, "you will never believe what a kid wore (or did) in class today and i just didn't know where to look in the room so i just lectured with my eyes shut." then he asks if she really thinks that stuff will work. sure, some nice looking female students receive "a's" but, believe me, they came by them honestly. it's his feeling that those who are loudest and brag the most, tend to do worst. i think he's pretty typical, as male professors go.:)

I've seen it done before, but honestly as a couple of other posters said they wont last 2 minutes in nursing school ! That's the main thing you have to remember :)

I would bet that professor's giving grades for unethical reasons is very rare. I'm sure it has happened before, because people are not infallable, but I've never seen it in all my years of school. I've never experienced it either. Way back in the dark ages, when I was a fit, young'un going through college the first time, I had to work my butt off for every grade I got. Now, as a middle aged student rockin' my mom jeans....I'm still working my butt off for every grade I get :) I honestly don't worry about other people's grades. So as long as my grade reflects my performance - I'm happy.

If that actually worked, I'd make more of an effort with my appearance at school.
