cinqly, I can't believe that someone would actually do that!!!! Wow...I am shocked!!! It really upsets me when one persons stupidity ruins things for the entire class.

So, I have to say that I am not liking Micro too much...this is the last class I have as far as the pre-nursing classes. This is by far the worst, probably because it isn't capturing my interest. I'm doing ok, but would like to be doing better...just can't get into it. I seriously can't wait for the semester to be over with this one and just PRAY that I pass so I don't have to go through another 16 weeks of this!!!

A&P I loved and did well in. This class...just not feelin' it!!!

boy I am not sure its a toss up for me I love love AP and I am really enjoying micro, I think I will like it even more after this unit of genetics, I am looking forward to actually getting more into microorganisms. I do think however I am liking this class more then I expected due to the great teacher we have she has such enthusiasium for the class it spills over on to us.

Can't say I am loving Micro. I really did enjoy A&P classes. I have 8 weeks to go and just gonna grin and bear it. All I need is a 'C', although I would rather not do that to my GPA, I just dont care anymore.

Looking forward to being done with this one.

    My schedule is:

    Micro - Mon/Wed, 5:35-8:25pm
    A&P 2 - Tues/Thur, 5:35-8:25pm
    Statistics - online

Classes start 1/16 at Eastfield College.

I am not looking forward to this semester. I know this schedule will be TOUGH, nite classes 4 times a week, ugh. I just had 2 nites a week last semester and it was rough. Just 4 months to tough it out though - I can do it!

    Hi Everyone!

Hope all are having a good semester..I'm stressing, but that's nothing new for me

I would love some topic ideas for my Micro research paper due in 3 weeks. Again, like last semester with my A&P research paper, I find myself in trouble when I'm just told to do a paper with no choices...I procrastinate, think I've come up with something, start it, then change my mind..then find myself getting closer to the due date and trouble.

So, if someone wants to throw out some topics to me, I'd forever be in your debt of thankfullness.

My Diseases class thankfully gave us a list and I chose Lupus, no stress there!

I have no idea but good luck!

We have a paper but she will give us the topic I haven't gotten it yet.

I am doing a presentation for AP too this semester one of my lab partners picked it because her daughter has the condition.

Well, what system strikes your fancy? We have to do a class presentation with our reports and I am planning to do something nasty in the lungs. Tuberculosis or streptococcus pneumoniae maybe. How do those sound to you? I'd pick two, then see which is easier to research. No sense commiting to something that you can't find the information about!

Our first lab practical has been pushed back to Thursday night. I'm grateful for the extra week, but all my kids have been sick, so I haven't gotten much studying done.

I'd do a paper on E. coli...specifically 0157:H7. My brother came very close to dying from that particular strain a few years ago.

here is a micro question for you guys. I am doing my lab assignment and I am stumped..

"How might fluorescence microscopy be used to visualize the bacterial capsule?"

Its not in the lab packet and I read about fluoroescence microscopy and I know what a capsule is but I can't see how it would be used to identify one.

    anyone?

I am not totally sure but I do know that when you use fluorsence microscopy with capsulated bacteria it doesn't stain it but a fluorsent halo is around them.

Fluorochrome dyes will tend to illuminate your specimen under UV light under normal fluorecence microscopy. You can also add a fluorescent dye to an antibody that is specific for that microorganism & then detect the microorganism. If the antibody doesn't have an antigen to adhere to on the microorganism, it'll get washed away & you won't see a darn thing under the scope. You can use this technique to diagnose syphillis for example. However, this is immunofluorescence, a specific subset of the original.
Not all certain how in-depth your professor wants to go. If you want more in-depth info, just let me know.
