I passed Chemistry with a "C", should I retake?

I passed that class with the skin of my teeth. I got a C. The nursing program states that I need a "C" or higher in my pre reqs. I really don't want to take it over again. I figure if I do well in my other classes, Organic, Human Anatomy I & II, Micro then it will balance out. I plan on applying at Wright State University. What do you all think? I am just so happy to be done with that class, it was long and it took up so much of my time.

Will the chemistry count on your GPA? The chemistry that is required at my school is just basic high school chemistry or an equivalent. It does not count against your GPA. If it does count against your GPA and your school requires you to have a high GPA to get into the nursing program, you may want to consider retaking it. If it doesn't count against you GPA, I would not retake. Hope this helps.

At the schools around her (Central FL). The 4 credit chem course IS calculated into your "nursing GPA". There were 9 course in that " nursing GPA" and those were the biggies. If you have A's otherwise, you can slide. If not, retake it! All the schools here are so competitive. I got into A BSN program with my nursing GPA of 3.7. I know 140 people applied and those with 3.4 didn't make the cut, if that helps you any... Good luck! Kelli

I wouldn't worry about retaking Chemistry over again. I would be more concerned about not getting any more C's in Organic, Micro, A&P, STT, and Gen. Ed's. I too recieved a "C" (but in Microbiology 220) and all of my other classes were A's and B's and I still managed to get into Wright State's nursing program. Honestly, if your GPA is above a 3.4 when you finish all of your pre reqs you will get in. You can call and ask what their cut off GPA was for Fall 09 and I bet it would probably be a 3.2. Also, WSU does not take the highest grade of the two for the same class. If you retake a class, they will average the two grades. You should just focus on the next set of classes and be thankful you earned a "C". Good luck!

I agree with the above.. Wait and see how your GPA is once you finish the other classes. If it isn't high enough at that point then i would retake it.

I also agree with the other members. Just try to ace your other courses so you would not have to retake chemistry. remember that it is really competitive out there for nursing so just try and keep your GPA high.

I wouldn't recommend taking chemistry over...especially right now. I'd would just focus on your other pre-req's and try to get at least B's. I seriously doubt every student in a BSN program had all A's in their science pre-reqs. I was accepted into an ADN program with a 2.88 undergrad GPA and a C in both A&P 1 and 2, B in Micro, and A's in Chemistry, Intro to Psych and Devp Psych...Had to retake the last three because I got a D in each of them during my previous degree. Those D's were on my transcript from that college.

Okay, I won't take it over again. Just got my books and it seems that for Organic chem we're using the same book that was used in Introductory Chem. I might ace Chem this time around.

The average GPA for the BSN students here is even higher than that! If I hear how one more person applied to GMU with a 3.8 and got turned down I am going to cry. Although I think the RN to BSN program might have slightly lower standards, I am going to do everything in my power so that nursing school doesn't kill my 3.95 :bluecry1: Although, a teacher at my school said to just get my BSN online, that was refreshing to hear.

I also got a C in Chemistry---technically a C+ but my school doesn't use + or - for their grades.

In fact, I also got a C in Statistics. I took both of those classes as general education courses when I wasn't sure what major I wanted to pursue. I had little motivation and ended up getting those two C's. However, I decided on Nursing and got A's in the rest of my classes and although the C's are making it extremely difficult GPA-wise, I was able to get waitlisted for fall 2009 entry at a couple competitive BSN programs. You should be just fine with just one C :)
