Gen. Psych in Summer, too hard?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I am thinking of taking General Psychology this summer - it meets for 6 weeks, 4 nights a week, 2 hours a night. Do you think this will be too hard to do in that short time? I have heard it will be a lot of reading and I am wondering if I will have to read several chapters every night to prepare for the next class since it is the very next day and accelereated. I am not sure if I can do it since I work full time.

Has anyone else done this? Do you find it to help you to get it out of the way faster, or did your grades suffer because of the fast pace?

Thanks!

P.S. My husband and I are also moving into a new apartment in the middle of all of this! Yikes! :uhoh3:

i havent taken this class in the summer before but i have taken several classes over the summer. it is very very fast paced but if you keep up with everything and dont procrastinate then you should do fine :) . as for me i am taking a 10 week microbiology course this summer and it is mon. through thurs. from 8am-1:20. i'll be working part time and same as you i will also be moving into a new apartment!!! so much for our summers!!!

Since you need to do this class you should just go ahead and get it over and done with. Every college course is either easy or difficult, depending on how much time and effort you are willing to put into it. I've done these short summer courses and so have many others here. You can do it too if you commit yourself to it. Yes, with a course like psychology you'll have to do a lot of reading every day to keep up, and you'll likely have an exam every other week or so.

I just finished up my psyche class this week. It was a tele-web class. That was by far the easiest A I've ever gotten and I didn't even read the book. I did watch the television programs and I did answer the questions in the study guide. I got a 100% on my midterm and a 97% on the final. I'm not bragging, just pointing out that I think the material is really easy stuff. Alot is just common sense and life knowledge.

You'll do fine.

I took it on-line last summer in 8 weeks along with 2 other courses and working full time. On-line was the way to go for me. I saved my reading for Saturday only and took one quiz on two chapters every Sunday. Passed with an A. I kept myself motivated by keeping to a set schedule, and was thankful that I didn't have to drive 60 miles round-trip 4 nights a week to take it on campus!

I am taking Gen. Psych online along with A&P II (in class) and medical math class. I also will be working part time. I wont be moving this semester already did that last semester (what a chore that was). Anyway, I say go for it, like the others have said, if you stick to a schedule you should be fine. Good luck!

I think Gen Psych is one of the more "doable" courses to take in the summer. You'll just have to do lots of cramming.

If I had a choice I would take it during the summer just to get it over with. Meeting 4 nights a week, I seriously doubt you will have to read several chapters a night because 6 weeks is enough t2o spread it out a bit. I'm taking an 8-week developmental psych online and a 5-week micro course this summer, while working full-time AND moving to a new apartment. So I know where you're coming from here. Just study a bit each night to prepare for the exams, prioritize things and you will do fine. Best of luck.

Oh my G!!! I took Gen. Psych in one month and got an easy A without almost no studying! We had class everyday for two hours and the end of each week we had a test over that weeks material. There was no cumulative test. Sense the information on each test was so new and relevant I did was the quizzes online through the book website and going through the terms in the book the night before. It was SO easy. I was doing this at the same time as Basic Bio too (a two month class).

I agree with everyone else basically. When I took Gen. Psych ( wow over 12 years ago ) I took it an entire semester and wow was that drawn OUT. I would have preferred it to be a 6 week course.... I took Human Dev. Psych in 6 weeks just a year ago and found that easy as pie too. Yes, you have to read. Yes, you have to study but overall..compared to some other courses...it's extremely doable.

I took Intro to Psych & finished it in 5 weeks with an A, and currently taking Developmental Psych, which is a 6 weeks class. I just took my last test, and only need 10 out of 20 possible points on the essay questions to have my A in that class as well.

***EDIT: My grade was just posted for that test, I earned 19 points out of the possible 20, so I made my A!!!!!!***

BTW, my classes were not lecture, but online and telecourse.

It is a HUGE amount of reading, but it can be done. I am also taking A&P 1 at the same time as the Dev. Psych, and making an A in both! I'm not saying everyone can, just that it is possible! :)

Good luck!
