Am I too old to start?

Students Pre-Nursing

Hello, I am 29 years old. I have been working in the medical finance world since I can remember. However, I am looking at taking the leap into rn. I am wondering if I am too old to embark on this journey. Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you

I was 28. Most of my class mates were my age.

Do you happen to have any tips or pointers? I am literally starting from scratch. I am nervous about the change, but feel it will be a good one for me. I do have one thing to ask. Was there anything when you started that your stomach could NOT handle and did it change?

You are absolutely not too old!!!! You will probably have just as many younger than you as you do older than you in your classes.

You are not too old! In fact you will likely have a different outlook and maturity that many who went to school ages 18-22 didn't have. I work with someone who didn't go to RN school until she was in her late 50s and she is an amazing nurse. A woman in my NP class is in her 60s. It's never too late to make a decision that will make you happy. If you don't go back to school you may look back on that decision with regret!

Not too old at all! I know a lot who go back in their 30 and 40s. Go for it!

You are still a spring chicken. I graduated from nursing school at 27 but many of my classmates were in their late 30's to mid 40's. You are never too old.

I graduated nursing school at age 41 with my ASN. I am now 47 and have my MSN. No, you aren't too old.

Forget it, you're too old. You're stuck with what you're doing now for the rest of your life so put your head back into that number crunching because that's all you'll ever know and live.

HaHaHaHa...too old!! Get outta here!! I graduated from nursing school at the tender, innocent, age of 42; from an industrial construction background...pipefitting.

No things my stomach couldn't handle. I do have a yuck factor with bloody teeth being loose. But you don't see much of that in nursing.

Most normal human beings don't like to see or hear someone throwing up. Like maybe the first 10 seconds of dealing with it you think...blech!....but then your mind goes into the "fix it" mode, get an emesis basin, get some antiemetics, assist the patient however you can, you just deal with it.

Do you have kids, pets, family members? You will have had to deal with some "yucky" stuff if you do.

There are many posts on Allnurses about nurses almost or actually fainting, including me. Put fainting into the Allnurses search.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, OldDude.

Chelzw will probably need to be assisted with her ADL's and require more nursing care than she's able to give.

Just kidding, chelzw.

The best to you as you go for your goal!
