A&P II: The Summer '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Decided to go ahead and create a new thread...

I am taking A & P II at Valencia Community College in Orlando FL. We start May 12th...

I am an Online ASN Student at Deaconess College of Nursing in St Louis. I have taken a leave of absense for the summer so I will only be focusing on A & P. Guess I am not really a pre-nursing student, hope no one minds.

I am looking forward to sharing experiences!

Hi everyone, I start A & P 2 thursday night. I am so glad to have A&P1 over with (I took it with precal. algebrae). I can't what to find out what I made.Sorry if I misspelled any words I am an awful speller.

I have to tell you Fun2Care I have been reading the Micro thread and it has played up to my greatest fears ..that I will loathe the class. LOL. Good thing is the professor I have for Micro has been teaching it for 30 years and from what I have heard is an " amazing" teacher. We don't even have a book. He has his own program and he just gives us supplements. I have already looked over the first 2 labs and am " uuugghh". I think i will REALLY miss A+P. I have loved A+P. I am NOT looking forward to Micro.

I actually took Micro last semester and am doing A&P II now. I got an A in A&P I and I think that me taking Micro before A&P benefited me. I was sitting in A&P like 'hey I know that from last semester". Im glad I took Micro first (I got a C for a final grade becuz it was rough and it was my first C :crying2: ) instead of doing poorly in A&P. Micro was like my prep for A&P. So I think taking Micro after A&P should help you get a fantastic grade in Micro.

Good luck wiht both....

We are working on Renal this week and next...then an exam. I find it very interesting.

I noticed though that we are not doing much of anything in Lab...usually turns into lecture time...anyone else notice this.

Cheri :)

No and I wish! I take the lecture part online and lab on campus w/ 2 different teachers. My lab teacher is awful ( albeit easy). Lab is pure anatomy. No physiology AT ALL. In A+P I I had a ton of physiology in lab as well. Basically anything that's even remotely physiology related he tells us to just go talk to our lecture teacher:(

I guess I got lucky to have the same teacher for lecture and lab....

Good luck!

:) Yeah that is how I had it for A+PI. I really like having the same instructor for both lecture and lab...however it just didn't work out that way this time. My lab professor is all over the place and is pacing a ton faster than lecture. I only have 1 more practical to go so I will be happy when I am done with him!

I was kinda bumed about not having the same professor for A & P II as I did for A & P I, but now that I LOVE my current professor, I wish I had taken her for the A & P I...my other professor apparently skimmed over alot...

I am keeping up...but I would have done better had I been with this professor through the whole thing...She is very thorough and explains things soooo well.

Cheri :)

I'm done with the lecture part of A&PII!!!

The even greater news is that I think I might have done well enough for that A. Woohoo!!!

We did tons of review in class this past week and that really helped. Especially since he explained acidosis/alkalosis again. Really screwed up on that on the test before the final.

So now the weekend off. But start the lab part on Tuesday. And won't find out how I did until Wednesday. How can I stand the suspense?

Guess Im gonna be spending my 4th of July stuck in my book :crying2: (if I remember correctly I had my head stuck in my A&P book for Memorial Day too...first test of A&P I  ) Oh well good luck to all who have tests and practicals next week. Hi everyone.

Just wondering if I can get some advice. We are starting our cat dissection next week. I am totally freaking out!!!!!!! I am one of those people who could probably watch 100 people get shot on a movie but hurt one animal and the movie is OFF!!! I don't know what I am going to do. :uhoh21: My lab partner is willing to do the dissection and I can just observe, but she is going to be off next week and that is when we start!! We actually have to skin it. I think I might be OK if it was already done!!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I know there are people who say "they are just animals" but I do not feel that way so don't even try to give me that line!! :angryfire I will never agree with that!!!

Hi Jenn!!

I'm in A&P I, but am going through the exact same thing you are. I have always been one to opt out of dissection. However, right now it's a battle between my beliefs and my passion to be a nurse. I'm going to go ahead and do it, as I have no other option, but of course I'm not happy about it.

My advice to you is to definitely let your partner do the cutting. I know it's just as bad, but you can "clean" your cat, aka take out the fat and "gook", because that's probably a big part of your grade as well. I'll advise you now, you're going to want to tune out all of the other groups. While you're sorry for your cat, and just want to get it over with, everyone around you will be exclaiming "COOL!" "I can't wait to slice into this thing!" "What a big, fat, juicy cat.." and even "Man, handling this thing's brain is making me hungry."

Just keep thinking how much you want to be a nurse..I wish you the best of luck, and if you need to talk, I'm here for you!
