Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm almost 32 and just about finished my first quarter back. I will have 9 more pre reqs to take before I can apply for the program. I would love to chat with others and cheer each other on along the way. OH, and does anyone else think English 101 is kinda hard?! And why the hell does it have to be one of the 4 classes that count at my school? I'm going crazy!

Hey, love this idea!!! I'm 31 mother of 5 kiddos!!

I've taken my CNA class, intro to psyc, a math class, eng comp 1, and medical terminology---

I still have 2 more math classes to take, A&P 1 and 2, micro, chem and life span, as well as getting certified in CPR......the goal is to start my nursing program fall 2014.

I'm 43, just finished my pre-reqs last semester and was accepted into the nursing program! I start nursing school this fall. There are quite a few students my age and older in our program! Yes, sometimes it's strange being older than everyone in the room, but at the end of the day, age doesn't matter. Your dedication, hard work and perseverance matter!

Go for it!!!!

I had always wanted to pursue a career in the medical field, but had to put my aspirations on hold getting married in my early 20s, having kids, etc. I was laid off from a 17 year career last year and that was the impetus for me to go pursue my dream. It's been the best decision I've ever made. I'm so happy and I just know I'm doing the right thing. I love it!!!

Awesome! Congrats on your acceptance! I hope I get my letter soon. This waiting is tough.

Hi guys. Let me just say I'm 39 married with 3 children. I have an overly stressful family dynamic and schedule. I'm married but in terms of the kids I'm basically a single mom as my husband works 16 hour days. I have no family support to help with the kids and the household. I say all of that to say if you want it bad enough it will happen. I just finished my first semester of nursing courses with clinical and I finished with a 4.0. Be encouraged tell yourself you can and will do this. My plan is to graduate at the top of my class as a testimony to the power we all have within us. Nurse on people!

Your situation inspires me! My husband has a crazy work schedule, which leaves me studying with 2 little ones and a teenager. It gets hard and frustrating at times, but like you, I'm so determined to accomplish my goal! Congratulations on getting a 4.0! How old are your kids? :)

I"min this boat too, it seems. :D 35, two kids (one special needs) OTR Truck driver for a hubby. I guess I like to see how much stress the human body can endure :) Just getting started, but I really feel as though this THE best time in my life to do this.. I'm all in baby!:)

I am 38 years old, this is a second career for me. I have a degree in criminal justice already. I am married with two kids (both in select sports), and work full time. I just finished a year and a half of nursing prereq's with a 4.0. I attend a BSN weekend and evening nursing program. I start my nursing classes in 8 weeks! We can all do this!!! (fingers crossed)

I love this thread ~ what a great idea!

I'm newly 40, married with 3 kids (15, 14 & 13) plus we're fostering a 6 month old that we're hoping to make ours someday, so things are definitely crazy around here! I started taking classes about 2 years ago without much direction, though I'd been thinking of heading towards HIT (Health Info. Technology). I couldn't stop thinking about Nursing though and decided to go for it! I've tackled 2 English classes, Gen. Psych, Med Term I, a computer class and a health class. This summer I'm taking: A&P I, Med Term II, Elem. Algebra (math is my weakness) and a college student success class which is now a requirement for most of the programs offered by my comm. college.

In the fall I'm taking: A&P II, Math 110 (which is basically a math class for health science students) Chem I and Intro to Communications. Then come Dec/Jan I need to take the TEAS V and get my application in by and of January. I'll have one "recommended" pre-req to do at that point, which is Microbiology. At that point, I hope to make to an interview and then NS would start in Fall 2014. Otherwise, I have to wait another year and hope for Fall 2015. There is talk that our school might be adding CNA certification as a pre-req starting Fall 2014, so it's a possibility I might have to add that in as well if I don't make it in this next cycle.

Classes start tomorrow and I can't wait!

And I plan on heading for BSN once I graduate ...

I'm 34 and will be starting my first pre-reqs on Monday, Comp 1...followed by Psychology in July. I look forward to getting to know you all!

I am 34 as well, just finishing up my prereqs this semester and applying for a BSN program for Spring '14. It is wonderful to read everyone's stories and know I am not alone in this :)

Great thread!! I just returned to school after retiring from the military. I'll 45 next month so it's never too late :) I'm working on currently still finishing up core classes and purposely going slow to achieve the highest GPA I can possibly get. It seems to be pretty competitive out there.

Wanted to wish everyone well on their endeavors and stay motivated. We can do it!! Currently the wind blew me in Maryland but been a lil bit of everywhere.

I'm 36, just finished my prereqs and got accepted into nursing for this fall. I started prereqs three years ago, took one class a semester as I am a single mom of a 15yo boy and work full time.

I will still be working full time during school..... can't get my son to support me for the next 15 years, WHAT GIVES, isn't it my turn? ;) I am enrolled in the evening/weekend program. Going to be a long two years, but it'll be worth it!!! Just plan on taking in one semester at a time! Then plan on working on RN to BSN..... I already work in the medical field, as an MA for the past 12 years. If I can't find a job until BSN is done, I think my current job will keep me on, giving me some RN experience to add to my resume.

Good luck to all and thanks for all the wonderful inspiring stories! You are all truly AMAZING!!!
