Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm almost 32 and just about finished my first quarter back. I will have 9 more pre reqs to take before I can apply for the program. I would love to chat with others and cheer each other on along the way. OH, and does anyone else think English 101 is kinda hard?! And why the hell does it have to be one of the 4 classes that count at my school? I'm going crazy!

Well, I wasn't feeling old until I noticed most of you have kids already! (Well, not "already".....but pre NS) I am 32 and we are waiting until I am done to start trying. I feel like I have time still, but sometimes I wonder.

I am about to apply to the RN program this August, and this Fall will be my last semester of Pre-req's.

I feel this pressure all the time to hurry and start my family, but I just really want my degree first.

Anyone else in their early 30's and waiting?

Am I the only one who finds an abnormal amount of enjoyment in shopping for school supplies ?

Omg! Me too! Seriously, I wish I had an endless supply if money just for school supplies. I told my husband I'm gonna need a supply closet once I start school! Ha!

Let me know of any favorites you suggests. I always like finding new things to add to my list ;)

Imagine being 45 and male and being in a classroom full of 20-something women! I am going to need all the support I can get....LOL

I'm a 42 yo male, so I feel your pain. In fact I've had kids in some of my classes that were the same age or just a little older than my two oldest sons.

I'm 42, so trust me when I say that you are not old. Heck for that matter, none of us are "old". I remember my Grandmother telling me once, who was in her mid to late 60's at the time and a very active woman, that you are only as old as you want to be.

As far as you wanting to wait to have kids, there's nothing wrong with that. Don't feel like you need to hurry. You still have time.

Same exact boat. I wish I had had kids before nursing school because of the age factor, but I only got married last april. We plan to start trying about 6

Months before the end of the program, so around the end of 2015 since my program ends may 2016. We are healthy, and very young at heart,

But biologically I don't want to pushy luck. So stressful!

Ha ha! Yes! It is really cool and exciting to find others starting this journey at the same time. My kids are 12, 10, 7 & 2

I have decided on the ASN as well and then will transfer to BSN later.

How old are your kids?

5 and almost 2. My 5 year old thinks it's going to be pretty cool to do her homework while I do mine! She may have to explain it to me. :)

Don't feel old. I didn't have my first kid until I was 32 and the second one when I was 35. And, still, when I take them to birthday parties I'm one of the younger parents. Don't have kids before you're ready. They change your entire life. I know, "duh," but it's hard to understand how upside down everything gets when they arrive until you're in the middle of it (too late then!). Enjoy doing something for you before mom guilt has a chance to kick in.

I'm 34 and starting my program this fall. it's a 3 year program, so I won't be finished until I'm 37. I know that will make me a risky first time mother, but we have to wait until I'm close to finishing. My sister in law had her first at 36. I know that it's unusual, but this day and age it isn't unheard of. Fingers crossed! If I can't, then we're open to adopting.

I am 38 and many of my friends from high school are still having kids. I have one and he is 8. I had him 2 weeks after I turned 30. I have PCOS with endo and couldn't have another. My one close friend from high school just had her second boy after beating breast cancer!! It is possible as long as you ovulate.

My daughter was actually in 2 of my pre-nursing courses with me this semester. We are going to different nursing schools this fall but it was fun while it lasted. At least we will be going through the experience together.

Oh wow! That's great. We will both be trying to swing having a toddler and school! I'm a little apprehensive of finding the time to get my studies in because they are so needy at that age. I guess the whole family will just have to pitch in and make it work ;)

I am 37, and have just finished the prereqs for 2 different schools because I want to keep my options open. One school requires 4, the other requires 8. This summer I am taking Developmental Psych, and Intro to Art (for the humanities credit). In the fall I will begin my first semester in my program, and I am quite nervous. Two things that I have discovered: 1. Education has changed entirely, and I am grateful that my education came before many of the changes. 2. Because I am older, and more mature I have the distinct advantage of seeing the true value of my education and can therefore take it much more seriously. On a lighthearted note, I have also discovered that some of the .... idiosyncrasies of my younger classmates can be completely annoying. :p
