Let's hear from the over 40 students
I'm a 42 yo husband to an amazing woman and father to 5 wonderful children, 4 boys and 1 girl ages 19, 18, 15, 12 and 10. My Princess is the baby and Daddy's little girl. I'm still taking pre-reqs (only 3 left), but not at the moment. I'm finishing up a 2 year contract overseas and I'll be home 1 August. I can't wait!!! I miss my family and I'm ready to get back in school.

Good to hear from you! I was beginning to think I was the only one here going to WCC. What pre-reqs do have left? I've still got to take A&P 1,2 and micro. I can't wait to get back to my family and to school!!

Well I guess I'm the only one up here that lives in the Goldsboro, NC area. How about anyone that wants to talk about their story?

Encouragement?
You are quite welcome!

Encouragement?
Let me say I'm proud of you and it is good to see a young person, such as yourself, that has their mind set on what it is they want to go to college for and spend their lives doing. So many teenagers graduate high school and head off to college with no idea what they want to do or they are pursuing the dreams that their parents have set for them. As a parent and father myself, we as parents (not all, but hopefully most) have dreams for our kids. Dreams of the things we would want our children to accomplish, but ultimately it is your life and your decision. That being said, let me offer you the same advice and encouragement that I have given to my own children (I have 5 btw). Follow you heart, pursue your dreams and do what makes you happy. God Bless

How is NS with having little kids?
Let me just encourage you by saying "You can do it!" (in my Rob Schneider voice) lol!! I know this because I do it. I don't want to sound cliched, but I hope you get the point. For me the most important thing was having a good support system. I'm married to a wonderful woman (for 20 years now) and we have 5 kids. 4 boys and 1 girl ages 19, 18, 15, 12 and 10 ( my princess is the baby). My wife works and so do I and therefore we share the responsibilities around the house, along with our kids. We assigned duties and chores to all the kids, so that helps out a great deal. We also taught our two oldest how to cook and they pitch in there as well. I say all of that to let you know that it can be done. You just need a good support system and to get everybody to pitch in and help.

30+ club! Lets do this together.
I'm 42, so trust me when I say that you are not old. Heck for that matter, none of us are "old". I remember my Grandmother telling me once, who was in her mid to late 60's at the time and a very active woman, that you are only as old as you want to be. As far as you wanting to wait to have kids, there's nothing wrong with that. Don't feel like you need to hurry. You still have time.

30+ club! Lets do this together.
I'm a 42 yo male, so I feel your pain. In fact I've had kids in some of my classes that were the same age or just a little older than my two oldest sons.

30+ club! Lets do this together.
LOL, you are not alone. It might be a little abnormal for me because I'm a guy, but I do enjoy it. I think there's a certain level of excitement that comes from buying those supplies because you know that school will be starting soon. Plus I love the smell of new stuff. Wierd, I know, lol.

Anybody out there from my area?

Not a people person... (Yikes!)
The OP asked "Do you think you should have "people person" (communication) skills to go into nursing? Some people think - YES, it's a requirement. Others strongly believe that it if you are not a people person than nursing profession is not for you. What do you think?" IMO, being a people person and having good communication skills are two different things. To me being a "people person" means you either like people, which includes being around them and interacting with them, or you don't. If you don't like people or being around them or interacting with them, I'm going to say that no, nursing is not for you, because you'll be dealing with people every day. Now to the other part, I do believe that possessing good communication skills, both written and oral, are essential in nursing, however those skills can be learned and as you practice them you'll get better at it.
