2-Year Nursing Students

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am posting this wondering how many of us are 2-year students. We face different challenges and issues than those who are going to 4-year schools. I was just curious, how many of us are there here?

I'm attending a local two year nursing program. It's going to take me three years though because of pre-req's.

Oh ya so true, my husband laughs at me all the time when I say I am doing a 2 year program, he says,"then why is it taking you 3 years just to get in" haha.

i'm taking the adn program at a local cc also. but i think it's wrong to call it a 2-year program when we all know it takes much more time than that! i agree with megykilo above in the frustration that the 2-year program, which takes 3 or more years with all the generals and sciences, only give us an adn. the saving grace? you can continue part time and earn that bsn... and you save money!!!

hi to all you 2-year students!!!

hi to all you 2-year students!!!

i hear you about the frustration with an adn being a so-called "two year degree." i do. at the same time, i think it is inaccurate and disrespectful to say a bsn is only a couple more classes than an adn. most adns are 60-90 credits. bsns are a minimum of 120 credits. the difference in between is not a couple of classes. it's more like 10-20 additional courses.

I know! I'm taking my pre-reqs this semester and next semester and I am taking the NLN in December. Very stressful!

Sorry about my previous post. I was wrong and corrected my error.

I am at a CC and on the waitlist for it (been on it since Dec 06). I have decided to go for the BSN because with the waitlist at the CC there would only be a one year difference in the degrees. I do hate that 2 year label. The nursing program alone is 2 years and I've been at the school for now my second year....while I'm waiting, I'm getting BSN prereqs out of the way. If I could have done a truly 2 year program here, I would have jumped on it!

I'm doing Prereqs/hopefully ADN at a CC as well. Ideally, I'm going to apply for Nursing at the end of spring/for Fall 08. (And, ideally, I get accepted... *sigh*) Sometimes I think I should just go for a BSN, since ultimately I do want to get my masters.. I'm probably going to apply to a few BSN programs, actually. I'm not sure yet. Anyone else doing the "2 year" degree and planning to get a masters?

Also, out of curiosity, how do your schools all decide who gets accepted to the clinical portion?

I am. There are a couple of schools by me that do a BSN and Masters combined. But I think I am just going to do ADN get a job an have them help pay for it.

Going for the ADN so I can start working faster. I am considering completing to BSN after working for a bit and getting my feet wet but it will really depend on the type of job I get after I finish school and how we are looking financially.
