Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

It was not a specific nutrition class. It was nutrition with other stuff. So, I get to take a specific nutrition class.

Thanks so much, i will be taking Nutrition at my local cc.Hopefully i will get my acceptance soon.

I was hoping to start @ OU for the march session, but I was just recently offered a position in a new grad ER residency. Part of me wants to push my start date back, and part of me wants to just try to muscle through both the residency and BSN program. I know i'll be happy if I'm able to pull both off, and I think I might be able to since I was able to work as an LVN full-time through RN school. I just want to finish my BSN already. I'm EAGER because I'm scared i'll become content after making an RN wage. I know the BSN will be a good thing in the long run.

I was going to take cultural anthropology at my CC this semester, but I think I'm going to put that off.

Anyone start this program while in new grad orientation? Is it doable?

Congrats on the ER position. I've never worked anywhere else. Two things...first, the program is doable. I was not a new grad, but I have 4 kids (3 in school and 1 at home), I am PTA treasurer for one school, cub scout den leader, and I work. I take as many classes as I can at a time to get finished. This time, I am taking statistics and the two nursing courses offered. My lowest grade so far was an A- (which I am still mad about). If you prefer to take one class at a time, and you have to for the first NRSE 300 class, it should be manageable. Second, get the BSN. My husband was offered a job in another state. Because I have only worked in the ER setting I looked a job possibilities there. A BSN was required at the hospital I wanted to work for!

Yes, do it! One class at a time is very doable. Many students double up. I encourage you to get your BSN. Good luck!

It is NO longer a requirement that 300 has to be taken by itself. You can take NRSE 300 with another NRSE class now! Which is what I am currently doing.

Like others have stated, it is doable. I took 300 on its own in the fall. Then, I tested out of appraisal and took health interventions on its own. This quarter I am taking Family and Ethics and it is a lot of work, but doable. And, I work full time, 40 + hours each week, and have a 2nd grader. I pretty much come home, help him with his homework (thank goodness for the after school program where he does most of it) then work on my school work and studying...

Is anyone currently taking the Fashion class? If so, how is it?

Do any of you know (or have recently done it) if students are still able to test out of the Health Appraisal class?

Nope..The class that just ended was the last class that could test out of Appraisal.

I think you are given the option to test out until the classes are combined. You should still be able to test out in June when the class is offered again.

I did last term (Nov?), but I heard a rumor they were stopping that as an option.
