by klone Mar 28, '10The other day I was taking care of a young woman G3P2 who, for various reasons, was giving this baby up for adoption. She had custody of her other two, and was a single mom putting herself through college. In spite of her numerous psych/social issues, she really had her head together and was doing a truly selfless act by adopting out this baby. The adoptive parents had driven in from California and were present during the labor/delivery. This was their first baby, and their third attempt at adoption (the previous two attempts, the mothers changed their minds after the births). The birth mother, understanding how much anxiety they were having about whether this would really happen, wanted them their for the birth and to be able to feel as much a part of the process as possible.
It was just so amazing, being there with these wonderful people. I felt truly honored to be a part of this new family in the making, and whenever I think about the amazing gift this young woman gave to this couple, it just brings tears to my eyes.
I think that I may possibly have one of the best jobs in the world.

- Mar 28, '10 by Lola89That is a beautiful story. Thanks for sharing it. It's good to take the time to point out the positives in this field, so easy to get caught up in the negatives. Stories like this make me realize that I'm making the right choice to go into nursing
