I work on ortho surg floor and many of the nurses wear fanny packs or aprons with lots of pockets. I do wear cargo pants but still end up with stuffed pockets unable to find that darn alcohol swab when necessary. Do any of you guys out there have something that works without looking to silly?

My hubby wears a lab coat. So do I.

No one, male or female, should be forced to wear an apron or fanny packet.

I am unanimous in that!

You know those extra cellphone pockets they are strapping to backpacks and slingbacks these days? How about one of those attached to you belt loop ? it would jsut look like a cellphone and would be kewl looking!!!

A nurse I know in the ER wears a black utility vest over his black scrubs. You can hardly tell he's wearing it, and it holds tons of stuff.

That is a great idea! A utility vest. I am gonna go look for one.

Most of the guys I work with like wearing a belt bag to hold all their extra 'stuff'. they wear it in front, not on their fanny.

A lot of the nurses on my floor carry those clipboards that open up. They keep alcohol swabs, syringes, flushes, scissors, etc. I, for one, can't do it though b/c I was always setting my clipboard down and losing track of it. It's easier to fold up my assignment sheet and shove it in my pocket. My co-workers swear by their clipboards though.

I giggle at my hubby! He is a paramedic and has SO many things on his belt that I call it his Batman Utility Belt..but it is so handy!

I use to wear a small apron and loved it! Of course I am a gal so guess it isn't as odd..LOL! But sadly I had to loose it due to a dress code...now I have to wear a vest with only TWO pockets (yep...they told us how many pockets we can have! Darn they even said what color buttons we can have on our shirts!)...so now I look like a hippo in the hips from a walkie, pens, cel phone, nurse notification slips, tape/sissiors, and yep..those hard to find alcohol preps! LOL! I bang into walls/med carts with the extra pockets being full!

Uhgggggg I want my apron back..I won't bring my bp cuff or steth because I don't have room! That little apron held EVERYTHING (looked like a fanny pack really, but more apron).

Vests are awesome, but so is the belt attachment items...it is amazing what a small camera case on your hip can hold, and still look cool!

how bout a purse? :p just kiddin I like the vest idea.

Fanny packs... *shiver* I think they went out of style for a reason. ANYWAYS I agree with the utility vest idea, there are several people in my hospital that use those OR there are bags... kinda similar to fanny packs but without the humiliation of it all that you can get that hold an excellent about of items, It attaches like a fanny pack but looks a lot more fashionable.

Totally agree. My boss just ordered these little black aprons for us to wear. So now we're all wearing gray or red polo shirts with khaki pants, and the apron. We all look like country cafe waitresses. "What'll it be, hun?" :barf01: :sofahider
