The College Network - Legit or Scam?

Hey, I recently just signed up for TCN a day ago. I have 2 more days until I can cancel my membership. I wanted to know your guys' opinion of the college network. From what the representative told me, it is accredited. They cover all your pre-reqs fee's(books, exam fee's, etc.). But what else is there that I dont know? Is this a legit program? It's scaring the crap outta me. I was really excited to start this program but now I am second guessing it. Can someone please help me. I need to know soon before I won't be able to cancel my contract. Thanks

The College Network is not even an LPN-to-RN program, so the salesperson was fibbing when he/she stated that it was accredited. How can a study system be accredited? I was unaware that an entity exists that accredits learning modules and study systems. Even though the three-day cancellation period has not elapsed, I doubt that you will be able to get out of your contract. Others have tried, but have gotten nowhere.

The College Network is not an online or distance LPN-to-RN program. The College Network is nothing more than a publishing company engaged in the business of selling study materials that eventually lead to a nursing degree from Excelsior (LPN-to-RN) or Indiana State (LPN-to-BSN).

Most people are able to earn their LPN-to-RN bridge program nursing degree directly from Excelsior or ISU without ever going through expensive publishing companies such as the College Network. In addition, people have attempted to get out of contracts drawn by TCN, and all were unsuccessful.

Buyer beware. . .

There are enough negative posts about The College Network on this site to convince you to cancel the contract before the three days are up. You can buy the TCN study guides for $15 to $30 apiece on ebay under "Excelsior College". Save your money.

CANCEL, CANCEL, CANCEL that contract as fast as you can and save your money. Just use the books Excelsior suggest and save the money you would have spent on TCN to pay for your CPNE!!!

Cancel Them !!!!!!! I signed up with them in 2008. I was scammed into thinking they were a college but found out the truth after the cancellation window passed. I am now working on completing my ADN through EC using TCN's expensive modules, but if I knew then what I know now I would have went straight through the school and not given any money to TCN.

CANCEL IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also bought the college network material and failed the first test that I used their material for. You can do the program without College Network!!!! I graduated from Excelsior, took NCLEX today and know that purchasing the materials from the college network was a waste of money!!!! Take it from a successful, soon to be RN you do not need college network. :nurse:

Excelsior College even has a warning about publishing companies that offer study materials, ie College Network:

After the 3rd day, you will be locked in to their contract, and will not be able to cancel. As someone mentioned, TCN study modules can be found on EBay for a fraction of the cost!

Get out of the contract ASAP! The College Network is very scammy in that the misrepresent themselves. They see you materiel to study so you can "test out" of subjects.

Hello,

I have been in the TCN system for 2 years and I have been very happy with the resources and support that I have received.

I have not had to buy any text books from Excelcior, and have not paid any tuition, other than the registration fee, which is what was explained to me when I signed the contract. They are not affiliated with EC which was also explained. This program is for someone who is self motivated and does not need feedback when studying, for example: listening to dumb questions from other students in class or teachers rambling on about their experiences. Just scientific medical facts are included in the modules. I have passed ALL tests, the first time I have taken them, with just the TCN modules, and a Tabers, and a colorful anatomy diagram . I got an A in anatomy and Physiology.

This is late I know , perhaps you canceled your contract, but if not, The comments above sound like there is some baggage unopened that the writers need to personally deal with and not throw at you. What is good and works for some people does NOT work for others, and I am very thankful that we are all very different.

No baggage from me, Nancy ... I just hate seeing people get sucked into contracts that will cost them thousands extra in the long run. You will eventually pay Excelsior as well as TCN, so why not save the money and go directly to Excelsior? It just makes sense (and cents, haha). There are less expensive ways to procure study guides.

Nancy, how far along are you in the program? Welcome to allnurses, and the distance learning forum! There are a lot of EC students and graduates here who can offer support and advice, or who need support from others.

Considering the fact that NancyLynn joined allnurses just to make this post, I'd bet my bottom dollar that Nancy is a College Network rep trolling and attempting to do damage control. I see these kinds of first-posts on other forums and distance learning sites. It always ends up being a TCN troll.
