Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

Started to enroll in Public Health this week, but decided to take a one week break. But checked out the teacher's syllabus and posts before I dropped, and was surprised to see that she mentioned specifically "public institutions role in community health, particularly the church." And in a separate post, she posted just a Bible verse.

I realize this is a religious school, but it seemed a little over the top to me. Anyone else experience that during their program?

Also, any tips for public health appreciated!

Hey guys!

Can anyone PM with some teachers for leadership, religion, trends, or patho that you had a good experience with. Ones suggested wasn't available.

Thanks so much!

ROB!! This is definitely my problem. It was also my problem I struggled with in research but i made it out with an A somehow. The paper just seems so boring and sad. I hate that I can't jazz it up LOL

I learned to be very direct and literal. Reference each point in the rubric and do not be fluffy. I think each paragraph answered each point in order without long descriptions. I used the bible verses found in the online textbook to prove my points. I did not search the bible in the slightest. Like I said, regurgitate what they want and be done with it.

This class really put in perspective the learning expectations of this program.

HI PurpleMyst,

I'm scheduled soon to take my Capstone course. I am super nervous about it:alien:. I read that you enjoyed your instructor. If I may ask, who was your instructor and what tips would you suggest in taking this course. Thank you in advance!! Christine;)

@winterwhite28 Hi, I was wondering who you took for capstone course. I planning to start in the next coming weeks

I am the same way. I want to write a paper that someone wants to read and provides both topic information and a little background information. this isn't want they want. They want to hear specific bits and pieces and that is it. just get through it and look towards the end... it is near....

Hey, i am new to this thread but I'm supposed to start classes on monday, ive noticed you are on alot of these threads. I was just wondering, im kind of stuck on if I should work full time or not through the program. I also have a three month old baby that i do not want to miss out on. Do you think it is doable with full time work, school, and family ?

I remember very well that class I allmost lost my sanity...but I kept writing what they wanted to see and I survived

My opinion...if you are not in a hurry take 1 class at time and take some breaks in between classes so you can still work and enjoy you family

I think that it can be done but life wont be the same and you need to determine if it will negatively affect your home life. I work 5 days a week with some weekend on call time and it is tough for me to keep motivated. I am tired and have very little time to recharge my batteries. After being in this program almost to the end I believe that it might be more suited to nurses that work three 12 hour shifts a week rather than standard week day schedule. There have been times that I have taken a couple days off to do homework and completed all the work easily. So if you had 4 days off a week I think that it would be easy to do this. But this is how my life is and your mileage will vary.

I think taking breaks are important, especially if there is no time limit for you to complete the program. If you are paying cash then take breaks as needed. If you are using student loans and financial aid then you can only take 2 weeks break between classes. That is important I believe.

If you are a type A personality and must pass every class with a perfect score then it does take a little work. If you just want to get it done and only care to pass then you can get by rather easily. The grading, and grading scale is set so that not many people fail in my opinion. I have a 4.0 but sometimes I feel I have stressed too much. I think I could have eased up a little and been just fine.

Hope this helps, maybe others will pass some information along soon. There are many others on this thread that are much more intelligent than me. This is a great place for moral support and help deciphering the assignments.

Same one Tokmom and Prism had, and I'm totally brain dead and can't remember her name. I'm on my mini. Someone help us both out and let Christine know?!

It is doable! I work full-time Mon-Fri 0730-1630. I have one weekend a month at the beginning when I started, but then I quit the weekend gig! When I started I had a 4 year old and a 22 month old...plus, my 4 y/o has special needs and needs a lot more time and energy than I could have ever imagined. I have them on a strict routine and my husband helps out on Saturdays so I can do all of my assignments. It is a complete change of what I used to do each night, but I will be so happy in May when I am finally done!

I really believe that if you worked 3- 12 hr shifts, this would be an easier way to complete the work for this school. I have a 3.96 right now (bc of my Ethics grade, my professor was unpredictable and my least favorite so far). I would like to ease up a little and not care if I received a B, but I don't know if I can! I am SUPER excited that once I have finished my Spirituality class (I'm at the end of week 2)...I will only have 4 classes left! :)
